Freeheelers slide on snow a little differently.
Whether it is Telemark, Skate Skiing, Nordic,
Splitboard, or Alpine Touring, there is much more fun
to be had when you don’t lock it down.
We brew our Rye IPA in the freeheel spirit, adding a hearty amount of Canadian Rye Malt to the mix to bring together a unique balance of malt body, rye spice, hop bitterness, and hop aroma.

Handsome coppery amber color with an abundant head in the tall glass. Lovely fragrance of spicy grain and hops. Tangy on the tongue with plenty of spritz.
Distinct rye flavor with the resiny hops adding to the sharp grainy taste. Mellow malt with some sweetness. Quite a bitter finish. Interesting and highly rye-flavored brew. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at the Co-op Market in Boise.

Be prepared for some rye sourness in this brew. Right from the aroma, some funky, musty sour grain aroma. Beautiful pour with nice lasting fluffy head. Some more dry sourness in the taste, more malt than hops, but the rye maybe masking them. Different.

Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear golden color with a small white head of foam. The head fades relatively quickly leaving a trace of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is mostly of a bready nature mixed with some rye and a little it of a pine and a hint of an herbal hop.
Taste – The taste begins with a bready and lighter rye flavor which get stronger as the taste advances. Along with these are some lighter pine and herbal hop upfront which also grow stronger in intensity as the taste advances. While the hop and rye grow stronger they never become too potent, remaining a lighter back drop in flavor (at least for a rye IPA). In the end a little bit of a floral hop comes to the tongue, leaving one with a rather smooth and bready rye IPA flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel- The body of the beer is on the average side with a carbonation level that is a little on the lower side. For the style it was pretty good and made for a rather easy sipper overall.
Overall- A decent brew overall with a fairly nice flavor profile, although it could have been a bit more hoppy and rye like for the style.

Growler picked up tonight at Bier Thirty for $10ish... Pretty damn fair if you ask me. Poured at home into my HotD goblet... Huge 3-finger slightly off white head atop a hazed orange brew... great lacing and retention.
Nose is pungent earthy hoppiness... some background floral hoppiness.. background pale malt with a dusting of dry toast.
Again ... resinous hoppiness .... very earthy and a bit perfumy floral notes ... Hoppy bitterness builds mid palate to the finish. Malts are there just to carry the hops and everything finishes pretty dry.
Body is about right.. no complaints... a solid medium with a bit of an oily twinge accentuated by an abundant small bubble carbonation.
Pretty damn good... I am surprised I liked this one this much.
