This beer is basically what I expected to drink when I started trying beer. I like hoppy beers, but most IPAs are just too one-note or hops-strong for my palate. Everything smelled great but never tasted like it smelled.
However with this ESB I now have another style I can use as a go-to instead of Porters which are generally my go-to beers.
The color is very nice, a carmel brown and somewhat clear. The head foamed quite a bit then settled down. Sweet, but not too sweet or cloying; hoppy but not overwhelmingly so. There's kind of a little rush of citrus, then hops, then caramel or nila wafer/toasted graham cracker.
Perfect with red sauce, went great with an olive and pepperoni pizza. Not too heavy.

Panda to the darker amber side. The liquid is clear. Very nice initial head which retreats quickly and in a rocky fashion.
Strong smell is highly toasted crystal malt, not burnt at all. I did get an off nose from the initial opening of the bottle but it faced quickly and never returned.
Lots sweeter caramel malt flavors. It seems to be more of an American Amber than a British Bitter. Very little hop even in the swallow. The finish is sweeter with a brief aftertaste. Rich body as one might expect.
