After aging for six months in bourbon barrels, our pumpkin wheat ale, Punkless Dunkel, tastes like a side of your favorite holiday pie with a big dab of vanilla whipped cream and a shot of bourbon to wash it all down. Coming in a 9.2% ABV, the almost candy like flavors mixed with Autumn-like spices like cinnamon, alspice, clove, and nutmeg make this big beer easy to tackle, and hard to put down.

2016 vintage on tap at Neshaminy Creek's Borough Brewhouse in Jenkintown, PA. This was a redeemer from a previous bottle shared with a friend that turned out to be sour and a total drain-pour.
Muddy, dirty look with some lacing that lasts. Heady aroma of raisins, sweetness, candy bar and Christmas.
The taste is similar, with some bubblegum and coca-cola added to the mix. The bourbon (Woodford Reserve) stays quietly on the background but adds just enough barrel flavor. In a 7-oz glass, I dig it.

Among the best pumpkin beers I've tasted. The spices and pumpkin flavors already blended expertly in the base beer mesh beautifully with the oak and bourbon notes from the barrel.

1/27/17...pours a mostly rustic brown colored beer, dark, murky. Some remainder of foam. Pours heavy. Bourbon caramel forward nose. Vanilla and brown sugar. Finally pumpkin comes through, mixed with a sweet vanilla, caramel maltiness. Bourbon in the close, surrounding the flavors. Creative aging., Damn good.

A - Pours dark burgundy/brown color with a small amount of tan lacing.
S - Very complex nose: Vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, oak, bourbon (very subtle), a little bit of bread crust, brown sugar, and maple.
T - Vanilla, brown sugar, cinnamon, maple, oak, bourbon (which is not overpowering or too subtle, it blends perfectly), pumpkin.
M - Heavy/full body velvety, delicate carbonation, viscous.
O - Perfectly balanced, when it comes to barrel aged pumpkins, this beer is extremely well done and kudos to Neshaminy with this one.

The body of this beer holds up well to the bourbon and the bourbon adds a nice sweet note to the mix.
This offering is a perfect example of what bourbon barrel aging can do for an already solid beer – it accentuates the flavors already present and blends with them to add value to the flavor profile.
