Pretty damn close to black with a pretty mocha head that's quick to dissipate into a thin crown.

Mild aroma of whiskey with a slight cherry note and a little charred malt.

Nice, refined depth in the taste: plum, light char, vanilla, whiskey, cherries, hint of tobacco. Pleasant balance between a light sweetness and light roastiness.

Relatively thin feel for the style, but with a nice sticky, creamy, oiliness in the feel.

Really enjoying this one.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into pint glass in December 2015.

Appearance: Dark black with a tan/brown head. Head is thin, and sticks to the glass.

Smell: Strong aroma of chocolate, along with roasted malts and coffee. There is some hopiness, but overall the chocolate and roasted coffee dominate the others.

Taste: There is a nice balance between the chocolate and roasted coffee flavors. There is some hop flavors to enhance the taste and add some complexity. There is a strong alcohol presence as with other RISs. Great aftertaste.

Mouth-feel: Very thick, but with a very smooth creamy body. Strong alcohol, which confirms the 11.6% on the bottle.

This is a typically strong RIS, but it has a variety of flavors that adds a nice complexity to the beer. The chocolate is an interesting flavor. Although this is a big beer, it is smooth and really enjoyable to drink. I want to drink again.
