This modern take on NCBC’s beloved J.A.W.N. Pale Ale is brewed with flaked oats and wheat along with copious amounts of Nugget, Cascade and Mosaic hops, giving this old J.A.W.N. some NEW tricks. It has notes of Valencia orange and mango and is dripping with dank, resinous goodness.

A thanks to the founding father of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a dark golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of grapefruit, some notes of oranges and mango. Taste is damn near the same as the aroma, juicy, bitter for the style, alcohol is well hidden. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is an enjoyable beer.

$ 4.00 (Including tax)/16 oz can ($ 0.250/oz). Purchased 6/3/20 from Franklin Beer, Franklin, PA. Reviewed 6/23/20.
Undated can. Stored at home at 42 degrees and served at 50 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter.
Appearance – 3.5.
First pour – Pale straw (SRM 2), slight chill haze.
Body – Straw (SRM 3), hazy. When held to direct light, same.
Head – Large (Maximum 4.5 cm, aggressive center pour), off white, medium density with surface rocks, average duration, diminishing to a five to thirteen mm ragged crown and a thin complete cap.
Lacing – Excellent. Wide bands of tiny to small bubbles with columns and stalactites.
Aroma – 3.75. Slightly dank with citrus and flowers. No malt, no yeast.
Flavor – 3.25 - Unremarkable – slightly bitter with a little dankness. The citrus and flowers from the nose are absent. No malt, no yeast. No alcohol (8% ABV, as marked on the label) taste or aroma. No gastric warming. No diacetyl or dimethylsulfide.
Palate – 3.5 – Medium, watery, lively carbonation.
Final impression and summation 3.25. (Minus 0.25 point for undated personal container) Very unremarkable APA being closer to a run-of-the-mill IPA. Labeling is completely different from the photo posted last year – contains no usable info beyond ABV.

This drinks like an English strong ale. Do yourself a favor and take it out of the fridge about 30 minutes before you drink it. Much more character consumed at warmer serving temp. Golden orange in color with a heavy haze. Poured with a moderate, soapy, bright white foam with low retention. Light fruity citrus aroma, orange rind, apricot, light malt and light dankness. Medium bodied with medium light carbonation and pleasant warmth. Stone fruit, apricot and light tartness with medium light bitterness. Medium malty and caramel malt flavors. Finished dryly with lightly tart fruit notes. I was honestly disappointed at first, but as this warmed the hoppy and malty characters began to pop. Mellow, fruity, lightly dank and dark with a dry finish. Nicely done.

I hate to do this because I wanted to like this beer. A pretty color, but with almost no head, nor lacing. The taste is soft citrus to me, not danky, which I like. Devoid of any hint of alcohol until it hits you. A beer for those that don't like the taste of it.

Canned on 4/13/20.
A - Medium pale gold color with moderately thick creamy white lacing
S - Juicy citrus, papaya, mango, and some light malt undertones.
T - Spicy herbal, some earthy floral, citrus, and dank pine sweetness. Ends with a lingering citrus earthiness on the palate.
M - Thick and viscous with some sugary sticky residue on the lips.
O - This is rock solid. Not a stand-out, but rock solid and well worth checking out.

Pours a slightly hazy light yellowish-copper color with a finger of head. The nose is very citrusy - particularly orange notes abound. The flavor is sweet and juicy with a trace of bubblegum to go along with the mild bitterness on the backend.

I think this beer has yet to catch on. Gotta be one of the best beers from NCBC. It's hazy with a nice mouth feel. It's juicy and dry at the same time. If you see this, grab it. You won't be mad.
