Poured cellar temp from a can into a 16oz pint glass. Appearance is dark brown with little light penetration. 2-finger brown head that receded quickly leaving a slight ring of foam. No notable lacing.
Aroma is toasted roasty malt, bread, coffee, chocolate.
Taste is sweet malt, milky, chocolate for sure, cocoa, maybe a hint of vanilla.
Mouthfeel is medium full with a creamy finish which fits the style. Plenty of tacky/sticky lactose. Slightly cloying, this is a pretty sweet dessert brew but there is some subtle hop bittering on the back.
Overall this is a tasty dessert beer. Happy to support another local company that makes decent beer.

It's a very dark brown, likely only a shade less black than most porters/stouts because of the lactose. There's no head. A self-described pastry stout, this doesn't smell sweet at all. Instead, the aroma is mostly of roasted malt, which often provides some sweetness. Maybe this isn't going to be a pastry-like desert beer. To taste, it has a roasted malt character, muted by the included lactose. There's really no other tastes to confuse this with a literal pastry. There's no vanilla, nor cinnamon contributing directly, nor is there any breadlike sweetness. Here's what this is: A high octane 12.5% ABV Imperial Stout, with the taste of the alcohol greatly softened by lactose. It's not a desert beer, except that it should be consumed slowly. But, it's not, despite a misleading name, overly sweet. Black coffee notes, like many other stouts dominate the taste. Overall, it's not excessively a milk stout, but it's strong and lactose contributes both positively and negatively to its character.

Canned on: ??????

A - Pitch black pour with thin caramel lacing sticking to the top.

S - Roasted chocolate malt base with some char and light cream thrown in the mix.

T - Light chocolate roast with a tad bit of chocolate sweetness up front before lactose / cream sets in and finishes balanced with a lactose / chocolate leaving a cocoa-like taste in the mouth.

M - Thick and silky on the mouthfeel and leaves a sticky coating on the lips with a coagulation in the mouth from the lactose.

O - Most impressive about this beer is that it tastes innocent but has a dangerously WELL hidden ABV.

Purchased at Pennridge Beverage in Perkasie, PA. 4pk/16oz cans.

Pours a pitch black color with zero light showing through. Barely a head on the initial pour and it immediately fades to a beige colored ring around the edge.

Initial aromas of burnt malts and a mild sweetness.

A very sweet brew that combines flavors of chocolate, caramel and coffee. A slightly bitter aftertaste. Even though the ABV is listed at 12.5%, I’m not picking up any hint of alcohol burn. A sipper manly due to the sweetness and overall heaviness of the beer.

A heavier consistency which leaves a sweet coating in the mouth.

Overall, a very good, dessert-type brew. Borders on being a bit too sweet for my liking but this type of beer isn’t meant to drink fast so it actually taste better as it warms up. A nice brew to enjoy on a cold winter’s day. Cheers!
