Poured into a wide mouth grip shaped goblet: color is solid black, tan head with fine bubbles that presents 1/4 inch thick then dissipates quickly to nothing, no lacing.

Smell is roast, chocolate, clean grassy hops, a bit subdued and maybe a touch sweet.

Taste is bitter chocolate, roasted malt, light coffee astringency, limited booze, moderate neutral hops.

Mouthfeel is low/moderate carbonation, moderate sweetness, moderate bitterness.

Overall - though a bit off style for baltic porter, I found this to be very enjoyable and drinkable for strong dark beer.

Eye on the Tide from Neshaminy Creek. 16 fl oz can. $ 3.50 (Including tax), $ 0.219/fl oz. Picked up at Franklin Beer, Franklin, PA, 08/01/25. Reviewed 13/01/25 (Review 3445). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Undated can. Stored in reefer at the distributor, at 39 degrees F at home. Served at 53.7 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 57.3 degrees F.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Amber brown (SRM 18), hazy.
Body – Brown (SRM 20), opaque. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, same but red amber at the edges.
Head: Average (Maximum one cm, aggressive center pour), biscuit, high density. Quickly drops to a 0.2 cm crown fed by spotty carbonation, and no cap.
Lacing – None.
Aroma – 3.75 – Dark chocolate. No hops, no yeast, no ethanol (8.4 % ABV, as marked on label). No disulfide or diacetyl.
Flavor – 3.5 – Weak dark chocolate and slightly bitter. No yeast, no ethanol. No disulfides, no diacetyl. No gastric warming.
Palate – 3 – Medium; watery; soft, barely noticeable, carbonation.
Style: Sort of follows the style guidelines as condensed by BA.
Final impression and summation: 3.5 (After deducting 0.25 point for an undated personal container) Body is a bit thin and the flavor and aroma are markedly one-dimensional. Weakly bitter but far short of astringent. I was hoping for a bit of smoke or dark fruit, but no luck, just mild dark chocolate.

Very little head production. Body pours a touch murky.

Nose is restrained, but has the expected notes of roast, prune, and toast.

Nice bitter chocolate on the palate. Very smooth and flavorful. Balanced roastiness and sweetness.

Many thanks to The_Kriek_Freak for this can.

A - Dark brown pour with light caramel lacing.

S - Toasted cocoa and chocolate malt aroma.

T - Starts out weak but finishes strong with lingering toasted cocoa, and a building chocolate roast that lingers long after the sip.

M - Medium body that's a little thin around the edges.

O - Solid.

Decent BP but not much more than avg. Very smooth and hides the ABV well but not a compex as stars in this style. Worth a try though.

The pint can emptied nicely into a clear Imperial pint glass with almost no head. It may not be black coffee brown, but it's close. There's plenty of roasted barley malt to smell. The taste is almost all roasted barley malt that's both sweet and adds a bitter bite. The alcohol isn't present to taste, but the esophagus warms. There's no glass lacing, not unusual for this category and not a problem. The mouthfeel is both drinkable (almost too so, for its potency) and full bodied. This is a very good version of its style.
