The only thing better than pretzels and beer is pretzels in beer, and EG has teamed up with Auntie Anne's to bring you just that. This crisp Oktoberfest-Style Lager was brewed with malt, hopes, and warm, soft pretzels for an extra dose of rich flavor. Don't get it twisted.

Poured into a wide mouth, grip shaped goblet: color is copper, head is off white and presents at just 1/4 inch thick, and then dissipates quickly to nothing.
Smell is base malt as vienna with touch munich, definite pretzel character with a doughy wheat note, light clean earthy hops.
Taste is similar with a moderate base malt of vienna, light caramunich, dough, wheat, toast, clean earthy hops.
Mouthfeel is moderate carbonation, moderate sweetness, light bitterness.
Overall a mediocre festbier with a slightly unique aroma and flavor that presents some doughness and pretzel like flavor.

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a dark golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of bready malts. Taste is mild, some malts, kind of bland, I'm not really getting any pretzel. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a so-so beer.

Had this beer on tap.
Lacy head hop aroma and smooth texture with a full body Festbier flavor.
If you’re looking for a fall beer this is a very good one !

For an Octoberfest, it pours light in color and with a much puffier head than expected. Two twelve ounce cans end up emptied into a clear glass liter mug. There's much foam created, like brews with too much wheat in the wort. Well carbonated, it's mildly hazy and lightly copper-amber in color. The foam is virtually white. The aroma is a little less than the malty one expected from a beer within this style. However, maybe it's just a persuasion by the name, but it seems like there's also butter in the air. But, there's more of the hint of butter to be had for the nose than the tongue. Not only does this fail to live up to its taste reference, it's an unlikable beer, without category. Come on, a nearly maltless Octoberfest beer? When this gets quickly reduced to the discount section of your local beer distributor, one serving and you'll know why. It probably wouldn't have been good without the added flavors, but even with them, this is a bad way to consume beer. There's no body, no malty backbone which is appropriate for the alleged style and no taste reference to what's on the label. It's not nice to slam a single brewery by name, but this one continues to put out cleverly named varieties than are just bad beers. Let's hope for a future with a little less cleverness in the name and a little more effort in making a quality beer from them. Here, what ever added flavors they be, turn a bad beer into something even more unsavory.

Nose is vaguely noble hops but little else, but the head and hue are impressive. Flavor is kind of a confusing mash up, with big malt flavors flashing in and out but not really connecting. There is a bit of a butter sheen on the malt note but I feel getting the pretzel flavor complete would have been preferable. Texture is a bit watery in the finish. Not outstanding for the style.

Its hard to have a genuinely bad oktoberfest but this one is flirting with it.

Pours amber with a thin white head that fades. Aroma is marzen-esque with some kind of margarine notes. Taste is, again, marzen-esque with sweetness dominating but some kind of chemistry set butter/pretzel hits in the background. Feel is decent, good feel and finish. Overall, it's much like a fest beer or marzen. It's easy to drink and certainly has flavors to experience.

Pretzel? Festibier? Sure, why not. In one of the most confusing collaborations of all time, we have Evil Genius, a rather mediocre brewery, teaming up with Auntie Anne's, the goat of mall pretzels. This one is bound to be weird, so I decided to run over to the mall and grab a pretzel to pair it with. Let's dive in
Pours a mostly clear amber gold with 2 fingers of off white head that fades to a ring and leaves minimal lacing
Well, it certainly has a bit of a buttery nose, which is usually a turn off when it’s diacetyl but it works here. I’m picking up on aromas of biscuity malt, sweet honey, buttered pretzel, herbal hops, light caramel, and a touch black pepper
Unfortunately it’s a bit bland in taste, but still not bad. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting sweet honey, caramel malt, buttery pretzel, orange zest, and light herbal hops. The swallow brings notes of sweet honey, toffee, light toast, and herbal hops
A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a smooth beer. Finishes neutral with a bit of a bite
Overall this wasn’t great. It wasn’t bad but just rather average for what it is. Oh well
