DATE TASTED: August 15, 2013 ... GLASSWARE: Affligem chalice... OCCASION: downloading S-O-M football... APPEARANCE: dense dark brown purplish body; quickly flatlining head that recedes like a bad hairline... AROMA: grape/wine/plum predominate; malty/yeasty barnyard funk also intrudes; malt is not sweet to the smell...PALATE: dry, swiftly thinning exit; a bit of buzzing at the start, but a flattened, iced tea feel pervades ...TASTE: plum and grape resins sulk through the throat; woody/grainy, with malty, bockish depth...not clean or fresh... OVERALL: the least "formidable" of the three Evil Genius beers in this sampler...an oddball mix of flavors make this less an abbey dubbel and more an ale behaving badly...as the others in the mix were fresh and pleasant, I deduce this beer really is just not a pleasure to drink...

A: Poured the color of brown sugar with about an inch of off-white foam.
S: Malty goodness: toffee, caramel, brown sugar
T: Same malty goodness, plus vague hints of raisins and maybe plums when the beer warms.
M: Watery, unfortunately.
O: It's not the best dubbel I've had, but it's decent, and I'd probably get it again. Apparently it's only available in the Supervillans 6er, but I'd jump at the chance to try this on draft sometime.
