On-tap at DryHop. Served in a mini-pint glass.
A - Off-white, orange-tinged foam settles to a solid cap, thick collar, and minimal lacing. Mostly transparent amber-copper body.
S - Caramel apple, toffee, toasted grains, and a bit of nuttiness. Bread-heavy, albeit with a low level of sweetness as well. Perhaps a nebulous berry note from the yeast.
T - The taste is more what I expected from the style, with more bread, toasted grain, and light notes of caramel and nuts. Low sweetness, with moderate lingering hop bitterness.
M - Dry, crisp texture, with good heft for the listed 4.7%. Carbonation is a bit zestier than I prefer and unusually so for DryHop. Medium body, with a toastiness to it.
D - Aroma seems a bit off, or at least-style, with the apple note to it. Perhaps the beer wasn't aged sufficiently or was rushed in some way. In any case, the flavor comes through and delivers the promised Altbier flavors. Solid, but probably not something I'd order again. I think this was made by an assistant, so it's a decent first production brew in that sense.
