On tap at Kettering tap-room location. Served in a Nonic glass.
Appearance: Clear gold to amber color. Thin off-white head with plenty of persistent strands of fine lacing.
Smell: This has to be one of the more unusual IPA's I've smelled. It starts out with a hint of pine and citrus, and then suddenly becomes sweet and spicy - with aroma of orange marmalade and cloves. Quite appealing, but very unusual.
Taste: Solid two flavor profile - hops and malt. The malt complement and tempers the hops, which come out more as bitter, pine, and citrus peel. The malt is bready, but sweet enough to ensure the hops don't dominate the plate. Surprisingly the great aroma does not show up in the taste.
Mouthfeel: Just right thickness and carbonation. Not as sticky on the teeth as I was expecting, but otherwise nothing special.
Overall / Drinkability: This is a good AIPA, and I think is better than their Oregon Alley DIPA. Easily drinkable, memorable, and I think would pair well with food. I will have to seek out again and see if the quality holds up as there have been times I've been wowed with a beer on tap here, and I try it again and wonder if they've changed the process greatly since the last time I had it. Assuming they keep it the same, I definitely look forward to having this again.
