12oz can, no date stamp, but just released this year. Listed as "experimental IPA" on the side of the can as a rotating IPA series. This may be their revamp of the "Area B Experimental IPA" they used to have. Served in a tulip glass.
Appearance: Bright / clear coppery - gold. Thin off-white head died back to form a thin ring - some islands of lacing. Great looking color.
Smell: Pineapple, berry, a hint of citrus. A very mild herbal acridness in the background.
Taste: Citrus hops with a hint of pineapple, then a bready malt, and then a bitter finish that is part citrus rind, part cedar, part orange. It's a very odd, but interesting, flavor combination. Maybe even a bit of metallic at the finish.
Mouthfeel: Nice thickness - slick. Light carbonation. Not as sticky on the teeth as many AIPAs I've had. Some lingering spiciness on the tongue.
Overall / Drinkability: Great looking beer - I would have ranked it even higher if it had some lingering lacing and foam. A very interesting combination of hops. Not sure if I would have another one, but, a 16oz can rather than 12oz would be welcome. Should be interesting to see how they change this one from time to time. If this is their remake of the "Area B", I like the name of this one and its nod to Dayton inventiveness, but I think they should have kept the Alien and the whole Area B vibe for their experimental IPA series.
