I tried this beer at the brewery as part of a four sample fight whilst in Dayton for my Bestie's 50th Birthday celebration. It poured an opaque dark with no head and no lace. The scent had subtle malt and bourbon notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with sweet malt base and bourbon presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with subtle carbonation. Overall it is an "ok" beer.

On tap at Dayton Beer Company. Served in a shaker pint glass.

Appearance: Slightly hazy cola brown with coppery highlights. Barest thin head across the top - off white. Some small amounts of lacing here and there.

Smell: Meaty/smoky. A hint of BBQ pork and bacon in here along with some citrus notes.

Taste: Smooth malt, then smoked malt shows up with a lemon citrus finish. Very odd flavor combination, but it works.

Mouthfeel: Light carbonation. Smooth. Thickness just a hair above water.

Overall / Drinkability: A very unusual porter with some unexpected smell and flavor characteristics. Not drinkable by itself, but I think it would go very well with food - not sure what type of food though. I cannot see myself having more than one in an evening, but I may try to pick up a growler sometime and see if the food combo makes this beer shine.

On-tap at The Dayton Beer Company, Kettering, OH

A: The beer is slightly hazy dark reddish brown in color. It poured with a thin off white head that gradually faded away.
S: There are moderate aromas of smoke in the nose—similar to what you would expect from a rauchbier—but not as intense.
T: Flavors of roasted malts and smoke are present in the taste along with a light amount of bitterness and some hints of chocolate and dark fruit.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I enjoyed this porter and liked the aromas and flavors of smoke—these weren’t that strong and helped to add complexity.
