16oz pour into a Nonic glass.
Appearance: Quite cloudy dark brown with hints of orange. A bit muddy in appearance. Off-white head upon pouring died back pretty quickly to a thin ring at the edge and barely much across the top. Plenty of thin delicate lacing noted that was fairly persistent - stuck around the whole way down the glass.
Smell: Roasted malts, a bit sweet, and some milk chocolate towards the end. The chocolate got muted towards the bottom of the glass and started to get replaced with a bit of a citrus hop smell.
Taste: Very different than the aroma other than the roasted malts again. More bitter than expected given the lower amount of IBUs with this beer (I think it said 31 on the sign in the taproom), with a pervasive mild bitterness from start to finish. Malts were there to counterbalance, but not as much as you would think given the aroma.
Mouthfeel: Nicely thick, just south of creamy.
Overall / Drinkability: Not bad, but not great either. One was enough for me with this beer - I did not feel a great desire to have another one, but the one I had was good. I suspect this beer would be much better with food. By itself it's just okay, but I think with the right food pairing this beer could really shine.
