Pours an authentic lemony golden. Nice, billowing white head.
Nose is very lemon-y, lemon sherbet, very Sorachi-Ace like (I subsequently discovered on the label it was an American "C" hop, I think Cascade). A potent Belgian quality of candided-but-dry-cloves. Just a big, tasty herbal quality.
Reminds me of Bridge Rd India Saison but without the intrusive candied malty sweetness. Hop smell could also be compared to pears and vitamins. Not sure if noble hops, Sorachi, or something else.
Taste is apple-y, pear-y. Strong hop flavour and also a nice multi-layered clove quality. Finishes dry.
Mouthfeel is really quite dry. Strongly bittered, in classic Saison-style. Hint of sourness and a hint of sweetness. Excellent, on the whole.
This is a great Saison made in authentic Belgian style but via the US with its heavy hop bill. Reminds me a bit of some Jester King offerings.
