Formerly Sir John A’s Honey Wheat Ale
One of our original brands, this crisp flavourful wheat beer has been a spring board for many craft beer love affairs over the years. We add a special blend of Canadian barley and wheat malts for brisk clean flavour, spicy hops for balance, and bucket loads of local honey for its lovely floral aroma. John A’s Honey Wheat is an easy drinking light ale with great thirst quenching qualities.

Sampling a cold 16 oz , (473ml) can date stamped June 21, 2023. Picked up in the cold room of NB Liquorshop in Sackville.
Pouring into my plastic sample cup. The beer pours a clear copper color with a slightly frothy bleached white head of 1 cm. This foam fades rapidly to thin edge layer and does leave some lacing on the cup sides. A few lazy streams of carbonation rise to the surface.
Aroma is some floral honey notes and wheaty twang and bit of grassy hop note. No hint of ABV here, and the nose is pretty mild overall.
First sip reveals a light body with fine tingly carbonation. Very easy drinking beer.
Flavor is mild, but a hint of sweet honey starts us off and a bit of grainy malt follows and carries through the finish. There is a faint hint of grassy hop here as well. Finish is very dry and encourages another sip.
Overall a pretty mild, but unoffensive beer.

Orange beer with no head. I can smell a little bit of something floral. The beer has a good citrus-sweet taste. Easy drinking, but the beer looses something by being flat.

Light orange in colour, modest head. Light honey nose, medium malt body, fresh taste, sweet crisp finish. Very sessionable.

Bottle two of four of the tasters pack. Served cold into a pint glass.
Appearance - slightly opaque with a light straw color. Capped by two fingers of head with moderate retention time and some spotty lacing.
Smell - some honey, a light citrus fruit smell. Some yeasty aromas as well.
Taste - similar to the nose, some bready flavours melded with honey. A little bit floral and just the edge of a hops bite.
Mouthfeel - medium carbonation, with a spritzy feel. A bit heavier bodied despite the soft feel on the tongue.
Overall - a solid beer in the style with the nice addition of honey that adds rather than subtracts to this beer. Probably not something I'd buy again, but there's certainly nothing wrong with this brew.

Looks decent. Big white head over a slightly hazy honey gold brew. Leaves a lot of fine lace as you go. Head refuses to give up.
Mild nose with just a hint of hops and honey. More grain, malt and honey to taste. Slightly drying hop finish. Drinkable, but nothing that really grabs at you. Competent, but unremarkable.

500 mL bottle included in a sampler picked up at the LCBO; listed at 4.5% and bottled March 12 2014. Served slightly chilled.
Pours a clear golden-blonde colour, topped with one finger of foamy, white head which proceeds to rapidly recede before my very eyes. A narrow collar and thin, soapy film remain. The aroma is muted and not terribly unique, consisting of grainy pale malts, wheat and some biscuity notes. It has a pleasant, honey-like floral vibe, as well, so there is at least some depth to the bouquet.
Unfortunately, I cannot say the same of the flavour profile. It has a grainy taste, with wheaty malt and honey sweetness accompanying. Vaguely floral toward the end, with an off-dry finish. Light-bodied, with restrained carbonation levels that provide a modest bite. Super-easy to drink quickly, and not the sort of beer you would want to take your time with (and let warm) anyway.
Final Grade: 3.21, a C+. Sir John A's Honey Wheat Ale is not an interesting beer, or even a particularly good one, but it is highly drinkable so I am bumping the 'overall' score to reflect that. This brew reminds me of a regular American blonde ale, although the honey pushes it toward the sweeter end of that spectrum. A decent example of a typically dull style of ale - I'd try this again, which is more than I can say for a lot of them.
