I don't normally like fruited sours, but this is a pleasant exception. Very smooth and tasty and the cherry on the back end is sweet and tart rather than sour like most seem to be. Excellent beer

Black color. Medium-sized, beige head that disappears quickly. Dark chocolate, oak, cherry and vanilla in the aroma. Same notes in a soft, warming taste. Light sour notes from cherries.

Solid deep dark pour. Good head.
Slight hint of the cherry on the nose.
Delicious, slight hint of the tart cherries after a great rich stout.
Another outstanding beer from Revolution.

12oz can served in a curvy Fremont glass. Filled 11-11-20. Got it from @ovaltine in NBS BIF #18.
Pours silky black with a big fluffy head, settles moderately quickly into a thick layer sustained by a pretty copious amount of carbonation for the style. Smell is rich, roasty coffee and chocolate, fruity / grainy spice twist.
Taste is sweet, maraschino cherry, almost a coconut vibe, with chocolate and rye spice in the background, toffee and nuts.
Mouthfeel is medium, thinner than I thought it would be, neither chewy nor sticky -- could use a bit more heft, but still pleasant. Overall, very nice beer, would prefer it a bit more if it toned down the coconut vibe (which is making me nervous about Coconut Deth that was in the fridge next to it).

Deth by Cherries from Revolution. 12 fl oz can, received in a trade with @not2quick. Reviewed 25/11/24 (Review 3401). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Stamped on can bottom “FILLED 11-11-2020”. Stored at 34 degrees at home. Served at 47.8 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 52.5 degrees F.
Appearance – 4
First pour – Amber Brown (SRM 18), murky.
Body – Brown (SRM 20), opaque. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, slight light penetration at the edges, amber brown.
Head: Average (Maximum 2.3 cm, aggressive center pour), wheat, high density. Quickly collapsing to a 0.15 cm crown, and no cap.
Lacing – None.
Aroma – 4.25 – Chocolate covered cherry cordials, slightly less sweet - no yeast, no hops. No ethanol (12.5 % ABV as printed on the label).
Flavor – 4.5 – Begins slightly sweet with chocolate maltiness, ends with cherry. No yeast, no hops flavor. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Neither bourbon nor barrels. Moderate gastric warming; marked hard palate numbing; ethanol on the exhale.
Palate – 4.25 – Full: creamy; aggressive carbonation.
Style: Follows the style guidelines as loosely condensed by BA, except the ethanol seems a bit high for the style – just an observation, not a complaint.
Final impression and summation: 4.25 Seems high ethanol for an oatmeal stout. Chocolate and cherry are dominant flavors, no bourbon, no barrels. I allowed the final half of the pour to warm up into the temperature range for Imperial Stouts. Here the carbonation was less aggressive, and the cherry lead the flavor, followed by the chocolate. Still neither bourbon nor barrel. To me, this raises the question of which is of greater importance in determining style – alcohol content or grain bill; i.e. is a high alcohol stout with oatmeal added an oatmeal stout or an imperial stout with oatmeal (or a bastardized imperial oatmeal stout).

Very heady for an imperial stout. Very sweet aroma: brown sugar, caramel, vanilla, toasted malts & bourbon barrels. Flavors: everything that was promised by its aroma plus lots of dark fruit, plums, raisins. & cherries. Moderately thick with good carbonation & a fair amount of alcohol heat.

Appearance: Pours pitch black with a one finger beige head; splotchy lacing
Smell: Cherry cordial aromatics with milk chocolate fudge, caramel, molasses, tart cherry and some Bourbon enveloping
Taste: Milk chocolate fudge forward with molasses and caramel adding sweetness; the tart cherry and Bourbon flavors emerge, in the middle but never really come together with the sweeter elements
Mouthfeel: Full bodied and somewhat creamy with low to moderate carbonation
Overall: I can see why others like this but the flavors just don't sit right with me as the tart cherry tones battle with the chocolate and Bourbon

poured from a 12oz can into a rev deep wood tumbler. dark brown with streaks of shinier black running through it and a finger of mocha brown foam that recedes into a fairly thick collar around the rim of the glass. bourbon barrel and very light cherry on the nose. almost like a chocolate-covered cherry aroma and flavor with more of a cherry pie crust in the taste. it's really not bad because the cherry is so subdued but fruit in stouts is for psychopaths. medium-full mouthfeel. sticky and fairly full but with the heavier carbed finish. rating higher for the balance they have achieved here this just isn't my thing.

2023 vintage. This is really just Deth's Tar by another label. The cherry addition is quite minimal, with only a faint hint of cherry pie in the aromas and a bit of tartness in the flavors. Luckily the base beer is quite good

November 2020 canning. I remember being impressed with a younger version of this, recognizing the strong cherry character of it at that time. At over three years, this a subtler more balanced less hot version of the same beer. Standard appearance. Smell is cherry, chocolate, mild bourbon, and a dark roasted oat maltiness. Taste is cherry, chocolate, and a mild lip burning bourbon follow through. It’s a mellow barrel aged stout. It’s not oily or thick. There’s no boozy hotness, no flavors shoving their way to the forefront. Part of the overall mellow agreement for the older nature of it works, but a bit of the maturity is a downer, man.
All in all, this is as good as any Revolution Barrel Aged beer, and I have a very high opinion of them. Excellent dessert beer.
