This all-too-drinkable fruited spin on Deth's Tar is equally at home in any setting. Aromas of roasted malt, American oak, bourbon, and fresh raspberry flesh emerge from the glass like a group hug for the nose while the palate is treated to a gentle sweetness and incisive acidity. Enjoy now or store cold.

Pours an effervescent, purple-tinged mahogany/dirty brown with a pinky of mocha colored head. Stays effervescent throughout the pour, viscous
S: Plenty of raspberry, not much else breaking through, pleasant but doesn't make think big stout until late in the game, a little dark cherry. You get sweet & tart on the nose, a little smokiness late, red grapes
T: Boozy raspberry puree, oaky notes, a little coffee, tartness & some woody hops up front. Dryness, mostly tart, but a little sweet raspberry, baker's chocolate& woody/oaky notes as this beer warms up. Finishes with oaky notes, boozy raspberry, dark cherry & a little red wine
MF: Medium body, slight carbonation, some acidity from the berries, warming. Carbonation picks up once warmed up, sticky on the teeth, a bit acidic too
Decent offering, but a little one dimensional until near room temperature; the raspberry is the star of the show. Drinks easy enough

12 ounce can into a snifter. Canned 9/28/21, had 7/27/23.
Pours near black and opaque, with a half inch foamy head and light foamy lacing. Aromas of raspberry, chocolate, cocoa, some vanilla, malt, light oak and char, a little bourbon. Flavors of raspberry, chocolate, some bourbon and vanilla, light oak. Smooth, a very good full body, well carbonated.
Forgot to take notes when this was fresh. The raspberries are delicious and pretty dominant. The base shows pretty well, the barrels less so. Would have liked more of a barrel presence, but really good as it is.

Very good head production and decent retention.
The nose is absolutely dominated by the raspberries, to the point that while I can tell there is a stout base lurking beneath, I can't pick up many distinct notes from it - perhaps a bit of molasses, caramel, and coffee. The oak and bourbon actually come through quite clearly after swirling the beer a bit to release the notes, but otherwise are similarly buried beneath the raspberries.
Raspberry still dominates on the palate, but not unpleasantly so, leaving just enough room for the stout base and bourbon barrels to at least make their presence known. Raspberry presence is sharp up front, and then vinous, earthy, and organic after the back half; very natural tasting, not like raspberry syrup.
This is a beer that is certainly truth in advertising, and whether or not you enjoy it is likely dependent on whether or not you really love raspberries. I think it's an excellent execution of a specific idea, although I would prefer more stout and bourbon notes. The best fruited stouts, for me, use the fruit as an accent, and in this case, that balance is essentially flipped.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a one finger milk chocolate brown head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of raspberries on opening the can; in the glass, of dark toasted malt, raspberries and slight cocoa. Flavor is dark toasted malt, fresh raspberry, light milk chocolate and bourbon; chocolate covered raspberry finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. This one is all about raspberries. After the aroma, I thought it might be a little too tart fruit for me, but the semisweet fresh raspberry flavor completely won me over. There is a little tartness cutting through the malt in the finish, but the overall profile has the berry flavor integrated into the overall flavor quite nicely. Both the chocolate and bourbon take a back seat to the raspberry, but both support the fruit well. I'm impressed the light tartness does not trigger my aversion to acidic flavors in stouts. I liked this a lot. Well done.

Appearance: Pours coffee colored with a one finger beige cap that fades to a film; spotty lacing
Smell: Raspberries with chocolate syrup; just a hint of Bourbon
Taste: Raspberry forward with some modest chocolate notes; quite jammy from start to finish; not too much Bourbon in the profile
Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation
Overall: Tastes more like a fruit beer than a BA stout; still, I enjoyed it though it was not what I was expecting

It’s hard to believe it’s taken me this long, but this is my first review of the beers I took hone when I visited Revolution while I was in Chicago last month. I only came home with 2 different 4 packs, but I’m surprised I didn’t get to them sooner. Anyhow, this is a raspberry Deth’s Tar? That sounds interesting to me, and I hear Revolution is good at fruited Stouts and Barleywines, so I’m excited to dive in
Pours a very dark brown with a slight ruby hue and 2 fingers of creamy dark tan head that fades to a thin cap and leaves minimal lacing
Oh man, this might be the most raspberry I’ve ever smelled in a raspberry Stout. I’m picking up on aromas of jammy raspberry, milk chocolate, cherry cordial, medium roast coffee, raisin, sweet caramel, and a touch of oak
That aggressive fruity punch remains in taste, never veering into the medicinal territory I sometimes get with these. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting jammy raspberry, raspberry sorbet, dark chocolate, vanilla, sweet bourbon, toasted oak, cherry cordial, and light coffee. The swallow brings notes of tart raspberry, toasted oak, earthy bourbon, cocoa powder, burnt sugar, caramel, and very light fusel alcohol
A medium full body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a smooth yet slightly tart beer. Finishes mostly dry with a nice fruity bite, drinking well below its abv
This one is very good. The OG Deth’s Tar is already on the thinner side of Stouts, so I think it’s a nice canvas for the raspberry

Canned 9/28/21. Poured at 53°. Two fingers mousse-like foam with rocks; ok cap retention; solid ring with soapy lace; black with ruby see through with some clarity; medium minus legs on swirl. Strong raspberries jam nose. Taste is slightly tart raspberries; chocolate; no bourbon nor vanilla; a little oak as beer warms. Medium minus body; medium minus carbonation; no warmth from 11.8% abv; thin feel. Overall, a one trick pony - raspberries; very little base and virtually no barrel; very tasty if you like raspberries (I do) but if it weren’t for some chocolate notes, I could be drinking a fruited ale instead of a BBA impy stout…

Look: very dark, imp stout. Big mocha head on the pour that mostly settles down. Some ruby highlights when held to light.
Smell: rich, chocolate raspberries. Hints of vanilla, bourbon, oak.
Taste: like the nose. Truth in advertising!

Opaque reddish black body; fizzy; no head. Big raspberry nose, fresh. Raspberry and mild stout taste; sweet and tart; subliminal chocolate quality. Heavy body; slick; moderate tangy note.
One of the more interesting and uniquely tasty offerings from the brewery's 'Deth By' series. A big beer, heavy yet very approachable in the mid-summer season.
