Barrel-aged Imperial Oatmeal Stout with Coffee
Inspired in part by the disconcertingly large gravitational singularity at the center of our galaxy, we devised Supermassive Café Deth to be the midpoint of a theoretical bourbon barrel-aged stout-coffee continuum. After a painstaking eighteen months of aging, this slightly sweet blend of Deth's Tar meets its cosmic binary in the form of freshly roasted Dark Matter coffee to the tune of ten pounds per oak barrel. Enjoy immediately or store cold.

Revolution Supermassive Café Deth BBA Imperial Oatmeal Stout (2024), 14.8% ABV. Pours moderately thick, with a one-finger medium-brown head that left an oily sheen. Aroma is strong coffee, bourbon, and chocolate. Taste is bourbon, coffee, chocolate and vanilla, slightly sweet, equally bitter, pleasant bourbon burn. Excellent thick and smooth mouthfeel, overall outstanding.

A - Pours a pitch black body, solidly opaque, with a warm brown tint, dark tan head on the pour, which brightens as it thins, leaving a middle tan ring. Minimal small bubble lacing.
S - Whole lot of barrel going on, bourbon and vanilla, with some coffee notes trailing behind. Smells delicious.
T - Is delicious. Bright, rich vanilla and chocolate mingle with coffee and molasses, bourbon booziness and a touch of quiet coffee acidity to clear the palate.
M - Solid weight and soft warming meet decent but restrained carbonation, producing a lush brew that drinks surprisingly easy.
O - Truly one to try, if you get the chance. I am so glad I got one. So good.

Thought I had rated this before...anyways.
Well, what do you expect from these ridiculously delicious (expensive) stouts?
Fine, looks are just whatever. Crazy deep black color, but the head was eh.
Some hints of the coffee coming through on the nose.
It tastes awesome. I mean, like most of the stouts from Revolution. Deep rich, flavorful, nothing too overwhelming. Just an absolutely amazing beer.
Drinks way way too easy for the ABV. Like dangerously.
One of the best beers I've had. Too expensive!

Oh Lord. It does not get much better than this. She is a glorious sipper. Inspiring contemplation.
Charred leather to obsidian in hue. A cocoa colored head ascends nearly two fingers before slowly retreating to a firm ring and finally, after a few minutes, a few luminous tiny island float on an oily slick. Almost no lacing.
Nose starts with a boozy "hello" kiss. Warm in its Bourbon sweetness. Then some coffee notes bring a hint of roast that is round and earthy before going towards barrel char. Stupendous.
The flavor is an elegant dance. All things beautiful here spin, take turns in the spotlight, and gracefully meld into each other before bursting out into their own center stage solo. And then, slowly receding into the wings allowing for another to shine. Deep cocoa and caramel, date and prune, Bourbon and coffee, peat and char. So much is to experience.
Mouthfeel is both silky and oily. Low carbonation which is perfect for this elegant beast. The finish is Bourbon, meets a toasty Tawny Port, meets coffee, meets "yes."

12 ounce can into a snifter. Canned 4/4/24, had 5/28/25. Can’t believe I haven’t written a review on this before.
Pours an opaque dark brown, with a half inch foamy head and some foamy lacing. Aromas of coffee, bourbon, roasted malt, oak, some chocolate, some char, light vanilla. Similar flavors of bourbon, coffee, roasted malt, some chocolate and oak, light vanilla. Smooth, a little creamy, a solid full body, well carbonated.
So consistent every time they make this, although this batch seems a little sweeter than usual. Big coffee and roast, a solid barrel presence, hearty. Really enjoyable.

12oz can. Bottom date stamp is '04-24-2024'.
Black color body with a red mahogany back lit edge. Brief lasting light tan head, leaving a minor surface storm and a thin complete ring. No lacing but a sheen is left on the glass.
Aroma of roasted malts, bourbon barrel and vanilla, coffee, and chocolate.
Taste is initially sweet roasted oat malt with chocolate, and then the dark roast coffee arrives. Bourbon barrel and oak is everywhere. Vanilla adds to the sweetness. Aftertaste is a swirl of coffee, chocolate, vanilla, bourbon oak barrel, caramel, and just a touch of cherry dark fruit.
Medium plus mouthfeel. Creamy and smooth, with some residual stickiness. Higher ABV% is hidden but warming. Supportive carbonation.
The flavors are staged as to when they appear but the late profile is a complete blend of all. One may not get the coffee at first but wait for it and the dark roast coffee appears and remains for the duration of each sip. Overall the taste is sweet rather than any burn or bitterness. Savoring the aftertaste is the best part, which makes for a slow sipper.

Drank from a 12 fluid ounces can purchased on Tavour
04-04-2024
Served in a tulip
The beer poured a medium bodied, dark brown hue that approached black. Somewhat thinner in body than I anticipated for the style. The liquid was topped by a small, frothy, saddle brown head that quickly broke into a thin ringlet. A few dots of lacing trickled down the sides of the glass.
The aroma was a bit disappointing. There was a thin malt presence a fair amount of booziness. Caramel malts were most apparent. Moderate amount of roasted malt character too. The alcohol was sweet but not very distinct. I definitely would not pick out the bourbon barrel specifically. As the beer sat, coffee notes appeared. Dark roast coffee. Possibly espresso. There was a nice sweet, vanilla quality too. Touch of burnt caramel. With time, the coffee presence intensified.
The flavor profile was rich and smooth but, like the aroma, somewhat lacking in both intensity and complexity. Nice malty character up front. Nice melding of sweet caramel malts and roasted malt notes. There was a prominent semisweet chocolate presence too. Bit of vanilla in the center. Crème brûlée perhaps. Boozy bourbon notes appeared on the back end and crescendoed in the finish. Somewhat oaky, but the actual bourbon character was fairly muted. More lingering roastiness after the swallow.
The mouthfeel was medium bodied for the style. A touch thin for the style. The liquid contained a fine, subtle effervescence that made the beer feel almost a touch flat. After a few sips, a sweet, sticky film coated my lips.
Supermassive Café Deth is (as BeerAdvocate classifies it) an enjoyable oatmeal stout. However, as an imperial stout (as it is defined on the can), it was rather disappointing. Overall, this is an enjoyable, coffee-infused stout but not one that is worth going out of your way to procure.

Supermassive Café Deth pours black, with a small, long lasting, lacing, tan head. The aroma is fresh coffee. The flavor has a hint of sweet bourbon, lots of sweeter coffee, and a hint of oak. Great creamy feel. Overall, full of flavors, a little sweeter, and oversized coffee flavor.

Poured from 12 oz can into snifter. Canned on 04/24/2024.
A: Pours a thick dark black with 1/2 inch dark mocha head with good retention.
S: Dark roast coffee, vanilla, bourbon, smooth dark chocolate, oak, and subtle notes of cream and molasses. Lovely!
T: Strong dark roast coffee with cream, vanilla, molasses, milk chocolate, oaky sweet bourbon, and a hint of leather.
M: Medium body, drinking lighter than would be expected with the hefty ABV. Extremely smooth and soft feel. Layers of dark sweetness. Lingers nicely on the palate.
D: Very strong coffee note, which attempts to overpower the rest of the beer…but doesn’t. A bit on the sweet side. Complex and extremely enjoyable brew!

Pours a dark cola brown and settles pure black in the glass with a creamy mocha colored head that has some staying power. Gorgeous imperial stout.
The nose is led by a distinct oak aroma courtesy of the barrel, and there’s also a significant amount of decadent milk chocolate and roasty coffee. Wow.
The milk chocolate and roasty coffee are turned up to 11 on the taste, with the oak and bourbon providing balance, and the warming alcohol at the very back of the palate cinching the knot. This is delicious.
The mouthfeel is full, creamy, and slightly oily, fitting the beer perfectly. World class stuff here, IMHO.

Quite possibly the best coffee-infused beer I have had to date...
...Perfectly black with a short lived head, but it pours oh so beautifully as motor oil thick. The smell is a nice blend of booze and coffee-forward that translates to the tongue, but with a malty sweetness that almost - almost - makes this a dessert beer. I like coffee but I have had a difficult time finding a brew that includes it well - I think I finally have with this one...
