This single barrel of Deth's Tar was aged for eighteen months in a Woodford Double Oaked cask before being rebarreled and rested for an additional thirty in a Heaven Hill Bourbon barrel. An outburst of bittersweet chocolate and maple shine for an instant before collapsing beneath the awesome gravity of Bourbon and tannic, cherry-laden American oak.

Poured from the crowler was one of Rev's darkest and thickest stouts I've come across. It pours pitch black, with a much thicker body than I'm used to seeing, even from their single barrel offerings. You're hit in the face right away by the barrel presence that seems to be screaming out of the glass, followed by notes of dark chocolate, leather, oak, slight vanilla, and a baked, almost charred apple. Everything coming through on the nose followed throughout the palate with that full body I mentioned previously. This is an incredible offering, and one of the best I've had from Rev!

The next entry in Revolution's popular "Hit in the Face with a Barrel" series, this does not disappoint. It's a showcase of oak on a lovely Deth's Tar base. I can't wait to see what these extended ageing treatments will taste like in a couple more years, given how much the quality of the regular Deep Woods series has jumped recently. This one is all oak, booze, vanilla, and honey. Surprisingly approachable for how big it is. More heat comes through as it warms, but I still wouldn't have pegged it at 17.4% ABV.

Crowler filled 1/21/21; drank 1/23/21 @ the Yarchives.
Black appearance.
An even pour yielded a small dark tan head; almost no lace.
Dark chocolate, vanilla, caramel, mild bourbon & faint oak notes in the nose.
Thick, sticky mouthfeel.
Dark chocolate, vanilla & caramel flavors up front; oak & mild bourbon notes on the finish. Once warm, the wood notes really shine, as well as the dark chocolate.
Balanced, rich, complex & delicious. A real winner. Worth the 4 years they spent aging this.
