Revolution generously invited The Beer Temple to taste direct barrel samples from their collection. We began by tasting samples from individual barrel lots, each showcasing a combination of distillery, ABV, age and flavor profile. Once a favorite lot was determined, each barrel from within the preferred lot was also tasted until finally a single barrel was chosen to become Temple of Deth.

Temple of Deth is a 13% single barrel Russian Imperial Stout from Revolution's V.S.O.D. collection, aged 2 years inside a Weller bourbon barrel.

Cellared 4 years and had on tap. Pitch black opaque body with a brown collar. Take the usual deth aromas but add more chocolate, charred barrel, and molasses. Taste is run by the rustic and full barrel, with the chocolate, molasses, raisin, leather, oat, slight anise and roast accenting. Wow this feel is barrel character 101, with toasty, boozy, woody and roasty notes all there, yet so smooth. Really impressed with how this held up

Weller barrel VSOD on steroids. It's one of the best VSOD variants.

Deth's Tar base beer aged 2 years in a single Weller barrel.

Crowler filled 11/13/21; drank 11/14/21 @ the Yarchives.

Black appearance.

A violent pour yielded a nice dark tan head; almost no lace.

Blackberry, oak, bakers chocolate & bourbon heat notes in the nose.

Thick, flat mouthfeel.

Bakers chocolate, peanut brittle & oak flavors; bourbon heat emerged as this warmed.

Robust & challenging, but easy to drink for all that. A nice version of a classic beer!
