An even more industrious version of our Working Man Mild, matriculated into a stronger and more complex Brown Ale. Toasty malt flavor, floral hops to balance, and a crisp, distinctive finish.

16oz can, 5.9% ABV
filled OCT/04/2021
L: deep copper colored ale with a frothy tan head that sticks to the glass as it fades
S: malted barley, caramel, earthy pine
T: caramelized grain, bread crust, brown sugar, nutty, earthy & herbal hops finishing with lingering pine
F: medium body, very resinous, moderate carbonation, dry & bitter finish
O: this drinks more like an ESB than a brown ale in my opinion. It does have some good flavors, but not what I’d expect from an American brown ale

Reviewed on 12-5-21. Canned on 10-4-21. Can reads 5.9 ABV -- probably picking nits for .1%.
I reviewed this on a high level in the BA Brown Ale tasting thread. It surprised me then, so I thought I'd focus on a full review. Poured into my Libbey Impy.
L -- Clear, deep copper-bronze with a dense, light tan head that settles to a thin cap.
S -- Pine resin hops. Ever so slight biscuit malt back.
T -- Spicy, resin and bitter, earthy hops up front. Vague caramel malt back acting as a balance to the bitterness. Stone fruit juciness in the finish, but not overpowering. Bitter, herbal hops in the aftertaste.
M -- Mouthfeel is slightly syrupy to crisp with a medium to light-robust body.
O -- This is a really great IPA... for an American Brown Ale. The same, surprising, conclusion I made in the forum-wide tasting. Not sure what the brewers are thinking calling this a Brown Ale.

Upfront I have to say I preferred the mild brother beer to this one. Clear light brown body with a finger of light khaki foam. Nutty and toasty malt with zesty citrus and piney hops and floral tones in the nose. Taste adds some melon and continues this theme of an overly hopped brown ale, to the point of a light soapy aftertaste, pine replaced by simple bitters. Just missed the mark on balance for me. The feel is better with a medium bodied malt base with hops playing off it, but again too hoppy

Pours a lovely clear, amber color. A thick 3-finger tan head forms on the beer and then slowly dissipates leaving a thin layer of foam along with tons of sticky lacing on the glass. The aroma has notes of pine, citrus, grapefruit - eyes closed I would guess this was an old school IPA not an American brown ale. What really sticks out to me is the lack of malts on the nose - its just all hops.
Taste follows the nose with the hops dominating the profile - notes of pine, citrus, grapefruit, with a prominent bitterness. Light malty notes are there, but you've got to search for them. There is a woody, grassy bitterness that starts on the back end and lasts into the finish. Feel is light, drinkable, with a slight warming character to this. Dry finish.
Overall this is not a great American Brown Ale - American brown ales are hoppier and more bitter than their English counter parts, but they shouldn't just be an Amber IPA. That being said, the beer itself its actually really good and I thoroughly enjoyed drinking it. Reminds me of what I miss in modern hazy IPAs ... a feeling I didn't expect to have when drinking a brown ale.

Canned 10/24/21; drank 10/17/21 @ the Yarchives.
See-through brown-orange appearance.
A rough pour yielded a HUGE khaki head; thick, frothy tree-rung lace.
Acorn & faint citrus notes in the nose.
Medium mouthfeel.
Acorn & spring water flavors up front; mild citrus bite on the finish.
Hoppier than I'd like & not super flavorful; OK, but not one to seek out.
