A beast of a beer with so much complexity. The nose is rich with caramel, stewed fruit, seasoned oak, and anise. Great complexity, with hints of spice and vanilla. The palate is rich & sweet - notes of smoked toffee & caramelized dark fruit, w/ hints of cola, black licorice, & chocolate raisins. Fairly thin but good weight overall, low but present carbonation. Good heat and fantastic warmth on the back end.

Pours a dark, ruddy brown — not far from black — with an overly-large dark khaki head that quickly fizzes away into a modest crown.
Molasses, caramel, cola and anise in the aroma.
Similar elements carry to the taste, with pine tar, fruit and cough syrup added. Borderline cloyingly sweet finish, tempered by alcohol heat and a fairly strong earthy bitterness.
Sticky feel that’s a bit thinner than expected. Light carbonation.
I would love this marketed as a Christmas beer. Very enjoyable, if not really among the brewer’s best.

Pours mahogany brown and settles light-swallowing black in the glass with a sudsy mocha colored head that dissipates quickly. Beautiful BA cuvée.
The nose is led by booze, then some booze just for good measure. There’s also oak, milk chocolate, caramel, toffee, and stone fruit (plums and dark cherries). And booze. Wow.
The booze is up front, with a decided alcohol flavor up front that quickly flows into milk chocolate, caramel, and toffee, then easing into the oak and stone fruit flavors, before the alcohol settles in at the back of the palate. Exquisite.
The mouthfeel is full and creamy, coating the palate. This is an exceptional cuvée that showcases Rev’s barrel program and prowess as a brewery. World class stuff.

Black color with one finger thick, beige head. Roasted malt, coconut, chocolate and oak in the aroma. Rich malty taste with warming alcohol at the end.

12oz can served in a little Hoppin' Frog snulip. Dated 07-07-2023. @ovaltine sent it to me in NBS BIF #18.
Pours dark brown, almost black, impressive initial head production and near zero head retention. My glass has a thin ring around the rim and I'm watching the last island shrink from a cm diameter to nothing. Looks like there's a tiny bit of carbonation nucleating up underneath it to keep it barely alive. Smell is BOOZY. Barrel char, oak, rye spice, toffee, coffee, burnt caramel. Something nutty and bitter.
Taste is rich and sweet, lots of vanilla, butterscotch, some of the rye spice is there, sweetened coffee with creamer, char bitterness, milk chocolate and semi-sweet chocolate, and yes, the booze is there, but not nearly as dominant as in the aroma. Maybe some candied dates.
Mouthfeel is thick and still. Overall, very nice.

Look - almost black but you can see a slight reddish brown in the light. Big tan head with great rimming and lacing
Smell - so much woody barrel with a slight char along with caramel, dark dried fruit, brown sugar and molassis
Taste - woody char and booze are the first things that I taste follwed by a rye caramel molassis and a slight date
Feel - Full body but still a little thinner than I was hoping for such a boozy beer. It does have a great tingly carb but that might just be the booze tingling. :)
Overall - Complex lots of barrel and a lot of different flavors. I can see the ryeway and gravedigger in there

Dark brown black appearance with a modest tan head. Bourbon and fig on the nose, with flavors of bourbon, oak barrel, fig, molasses. Thick rich mouthfeel, moderate to light carbonation. Listed as a strong ale but could easily pass as a stout. Highly recommend this one.

Blackish and almost reddish brown body, tan collar. Aromas of dark and bright wood, leather, smoke with a hint of peat, rye, bittersweet chocolate, blackstrap molasses with hints of dark cherry skins, wet earth, and barley. Taste features the molasses and caramel tones seeping into bourbon soaked oak made famous in deep woods series, with surrounding leather, smoke, rye, char, with mild anise, barley, licorice, black cherry, dry earth, and bitter chocolate. Feel is smooth and boozy with sharp woods in a good way, yet this is robust like the nose foretold, carb is higher for style, massive beer, warming but a little thin on the finish. God I love this series, strong ales this refined and complex on the palate are a marvel to behold
