Barreling forth from the same French-oak-augmented blend of imperial stout used in 2025 Vanilla Deth, this super accessible rendition features Mexican cocoa nibs from our buds at Sleep Walk Chocolateria (by Dark Matter Coffee). With so much of the vanilla character coming from oak rather than just hand-split beans, you’ll also want to experience this beer at cellaring temp before the full breadth of aromatics presents itself. Far from any sort of adjunct bomb, a patient drinker will be rewarded with a dynamic sipping experience hitting on a wide range of familiar and comforting flavors and aromas as it warms but never letting any one dominate.

A Thursday night when I don’t have to get up until 4PM tomorrow seems an ideal time to deepthroat this 19.2 oz. can. Let’s keep it on the sunny weather.
Pour is an unsurprising black with a sudden head that keeps on crackling audibly long after it should have quieted. Nose lighter than expected; vanilla.
Cocoa Vanilla Deth is Deth finally tamed. The alcohol hit is quieter, the saw-like edges sanded off by soft licks of chocolate & a heavy dose of vanilla. Don’t get me wrong; there’s enough booze in this can to put down three inexperienced sixteen-year-olds, it’s just hidden better, an undercurrent rather than a rapids of booze. I’ve been watching too many canoeing videos. The rare subtle beer that’s kicking ass these days, but I digress. Good thing this is a limited size can. I’d drink more if it fell in my glass.
I can’t feel my feet. Or my calves. It’s going to be a long crawl to bed. Kids, don’t drink and….well, just don’t. Fantastic, top-shelf beer that’s a vast improvement on the good-but-rough original. Max12 signing off.

Cocoa Vanilla Deth pours black, with a small, long-lasting tan head. The aroma has rich vanilla notes and hints of chocolate. The flavor is rich, sweeter, with hints of bourbon, lots of vanilla, and hints of chocolate. Good feel. Overall, a big, sweet, rich stout, with forward vanilla flavors.

This one pours a very dark black color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This smells like boozy hot chocolate, with deep dark chocolate, roasted malt, marshmallow, oak, and bourbon.
This is unbelievably decadent in a great way – with dark chocolate, chocolate chip cookie dough, charred marshmallow, some light dark fruit, etc. There’s lots of barrel here – it’s quite oaky, a bit charred tasting, and slightly caramelly.
This is medium bodied, rich, slightly warming but not very boozy.
It’s both ridiculously depraved and wonderful that something like this comes in a stovepipe-sized can.

Black with Ruby edges; fizzy, light tan, head that quickly fades; no Retention, ring nor lace; medium light legs with tiny spots of lace on swirl. Vanilla, bourbon, chocolate nose; boozy, exhale. Vanilla, oak, chocolate; bourbon on backend; very little sweetness; Baker’s chocolate finish. Medium body; silky, smooth feel; light carbonation; burn on tip of tongue; full mouth warmth; some barrel dryness. Overall, a chocolate forward version of 2025 vanilla Deth; still plenty of vanilla with oaky vanilla notes, but more dark chocolate present; great combination of flavors with bourbon holding down the backend; the best of both worlds!

Poured from a 19.2oz stovepipe can into a Rev Deep Wood Series tumbler. Pours a dark, dark brown but gathers in the glass a shiny black with almost three fingers of dark mocha brown foam head which dissipates into a thin ring around the time of the glass. Cocoa powder, vanilla cake and spirit barrel sting on the nose. The taste has dark chocolate and vanilla frosted cake up front with a smooth bourbon and oak finish. Very tasty. Very subtle. Not insanely sweet. A wonderful balancing act. Full mouthfeel. For as much head as this beer through it is not nearly as high in carbonation as you’d think. This only gets better with time in the glass.

L - Deep Black with a rich tan head that dissipates somewhat quickly, leaving behind a thin cap
S - cocoa on the nose - like a hot cocoa, slight vanilla. Roasted dark malt
T - malted cocoa up front and throughout, intermixed with hints of vanilla and oak. Sweet bourbon on the backend follows by the malted chocolate left on the palate
F - full bodied with light to moderate carbonation. Silky, smooth
O - compared to standard 2025 vanilla deth, cocoa dominates with cocoa up front and milder hints of vanilla with more oak whereas vanilla deth's vanilla character is much more pronounced.

Canned 9/18/25; drank 10/3/25 @ the Yarchives.
Black/brown appearance.
A rough pour yielded a nice, noisy dark tan head which quickly dissipated; nice lacing remained.
Sweet vanilla, milk chocolate & mild medium roast coffee bean notes in the nose.
Creamy medium mouthfeel.
Vanilla & rich milk chocolate flavors up front; dry coffee, mild booze heat & faint wood notes on the finish.
Slightly better out of the can than the draft pour I had; it's sweet but still good.
