Pours a hazy maize color. 2/3 inch head of an off-white color. Great retention and good lacing. Smells of strong pale malt, slight sweet malt, strong citrus (passion fruit?), and a hint of citrus hops. Fits the style of an American Blonde Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, pale malt, earthiness, slight citrus, hint of citrus hops, and a hint of herb/lemongrass notes. Overall, good appearance, citrus is the focal point of aroma and body, and sharp feel.

I had a pretty good day, but I had to go out to be able to watch Th' Stillers, thus preventing me from getting into the Bottle Backlog here at Chez Woody. I still have some time before Taps is sounded for the day, so I am availing myself of the opportunity.
From the bottle: "A light bodied Blonde Ale fermented with California yeast to leave a nice clean Lager-like finish with a craft twist."
I was happy that it was NOT a twist-off cap, requiring me to Pop! the cap. I performed a gentle pour since I did not feel like dealing with any mess due to an overpour. I need not have worried as I still got a finger of fizzy, foamy, off-white head with modest retention. Color was Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5) with NE-quality clarity, prompting The Gelt Gang of Midas, Croesus & Mammon to join me in the kitchen at Chez Woody for a taste. Nose had an unexpected sharpness of grapefruit and phenolic Band-Aid. Hmmm. Mouthfeel was kind of thin, but an abundance of CO2 bubbles made it feel lively on the tongue. The taste was not as sharp as the nose had led me to expect, but it still seemed bitter, especially for a Blonde. It had a taste like citrus rind and/or pith, maybe grapefruit, maybe another fruit, but sharply bitter. Finish was semi-dry, but I was not a fan of whatever they had done to create that fruity bitterness.

12 oz. beer poured into a craft beer glass
A: Golden/bronze color, slightly cloudy. Huge white head, at least two fingers thick.
S: Hoppy smell, with slight sweet smell of honey and pineapple
T: Very bitter, with a slight tropical fruit flavor (also pineapple),lemongrass and cereal. Tastes a bit like club soda/soda water on the back end.
F: KInd of watery with a decent amount of carbonation. Maybe just a bit too much CO2 for what the beer is trying to do for my tastes.
O: Just sitting here at home drinking a beer, I wouldn't recommend it. However, this may be a nice beer to pick up on the way to Ocean City and drink on the beach or while having some nice steamed crabs. This is clearly a hot weather beer.
I also was surprised this is only a 14.8 IBU because it tastes much more bitter almost nearing an IPA level in my opinion (I'm not a bitter beer guy for reference).

On tap:
Deep golden, fairly clear, but lacking a decent head.
Nose is hard to discern, but cereal and a hint of unexpected funk (maybe a touch of skunk)
Taste is watery and cereal like, with a little bit of grassy notes. Leans maybe just over the line to bitter, but lacks a crispness and/or flavor profile o grab onto I'd.
Very lite carbonation (but there is some).
Easy to skip this one going forward.

Edit: The bottle didn't say so, but further research reveals that this beer was brewed with pineapple and orange. Taking my review down a few notches...but it's still a really tasty beer!
I wasn't expecting much at all from this beer. In fact, I never would have tried it except that a fellow BA gave me a bottle. Most blonde ales are boring, boring, boring. For example, the blonde ale I had before this beer was your standard meh, boring, inoffensive, why-would-I-drink-this-ever-again typical blonde ale.
Some Beach, on the other hand, is an explosion of flavor. Awesome flavor. It made me think I was drinking an exciting pale ale, almost PseudoSue-like. That might be going too far, but the tropical fruit flavors in this beer are incredible. As another reviewer noted, one part of the flavor profile is definitely bitter, but that comes across to me as a refreshing grapefruit layer underneath the juiciness of the mango and papaya flavors. It's hard to believe that a 4.5% blonde ale can pack such a flavor punch. I'm completely blown away by how delicious and interesting this beer is and I'll be looking to pick it up again.
