The color of this watermelon ale is not surprisingly a glowing watermelon pink. The nose is nice with a watery natural watermelon juice and a back of bready malt. I find the flavor to be medicinal with a splash of tonic water. The watermelon flavor is quite natural and earthy with a fruity sweetness. This began to grow on me but the tonic water flavor stayed with it and was a real turn off. May have to give it another try.

Poured from a growler. The color of the beer was a pale reddish color, really peach + pink grapefruit and lightly hazy. A solid pour created a bright white and rocky head. The sticky lace dirtied my glass.

The smell of the Watermelon Crack was fruits and vegetables! Call me crazy but there were aromas of peaches, fresh snapped green beans, and watermelon rinds. Actually the watermelon was a minor part of the aroma. Interesting.

The taste was of watermelon Jolly Ranchers and diluted lemonade. The modest ABV (4.5%) doesn’t reflect the full flavor of this one. I found it to be refreshing and never overly sweet of fruity. Very well balanced with a nice, understated sweetness and a mild bitterness that makes this one easy to drink. Tart enough to be refreshing but fruity enough to keep it interesting. A little dry in the finish with a body that was medium to light, the carbonation was low. I’d say it’s a little glass of summer. I believe the brewery recently had some available. This is one tasty way to get your fruits and vegetables.

A: Pours a salmon-tinged gold with a creamy, lingering white head.

S: Aromas of wheat toast and watermelon fill the nose. It's simple and straight-forward, but provides a near perfect indication of what's to come.

T: Notes of watermelon, buttered wheat toast, cream, minerals, and mild, grassy hops wash across the palate. The finish is clipped with notes of watermelon, minerals, and wheat.

M: Light-bodied, crisp, and very dry. Carbonation is very active. I could easily knock back a few of these on a hot day.

O: The brewers seemed to be going for something akin to 21st Amendment's Hell or High Watermelon Wheat Beer without directly cloning the recipe, and I feel they have done a really good job of that. Compared to its more famous counterpart, Apocalypse's brew packs much more watermelon flavor and is much firmer in the mouth. Don't expect a sugary, syrupy fruit beer-this packs all of the tartness and earthiness of fresh watermelons. A great summer beer and one that I highly recommend for those who need to take a break from more complex, ponderous beverages.
