L- Amber/gold, clear, pours with 5mm white head.
S- I just get some mild fruit notes, perhaps apple.
T- There is a hoppy dryness to it (unlike many Japanese beers), and a balancing toasty/malty/bready middle. The finish is a mild to moderate brushing of dry hoppy zing on the tongue and palate.
F- It's ABV is 6.0% and it feels all of that and perhaps a bit more. Probably versatile (year-round) as it's both punchy and refreshing.
O- I prefer this to their JPL beer from the same range that I recently had, it has more character and is more rewarding to my western palate. That said any ideas I had on receiving these that they might be beacons of brewing skill and intrigue such as some of the Hitachino Nest beers have gone. Also counting against it is it's price when bought in Europe. £7.99/350ml can bought from Ichiba, London W12. It's a decent beer, though I won't be buying it again at that price (which FWIW is 7 times the price/litre of the superb British beer Abbot Reserve Ale).
Canned: 09/19 BBE: 05/20. .

Quite a strange beer. I had beers called IPL before (perhaps maybe all in Japan...) and although I don’t remember them now, this time this “India Pale Lager” didn’t feel quite right. Maybe because it wasn’t possible to find a balance between the hoppy ale quality and the lager. They kept coming up separately while drinking the beer, one time this, the next time the other flavor. Also the hop quality didn’t feel that natural, although hints of it reminded me of some good US hops but this time it was a mere reminder - that the real thing is out there (and this one surely has nothing to do with it).
All in all, it is a kind of gimmick for the japanese market but for anyone looking for reap value it is not recommended.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
