Tahoe Mountain's The Dark Ages, Brett stout. 10% ABV.

A: Nearly three fingers of tan/chocolate milk head. Black in the glass. Dark brown in the dimple, with a reddish-honey brown edge. Decent sheeting. Very solid lacing, though a tad on the thin side.

S: A nice tartness straight away. On closer inspection, it is the milky sourness that I've come to expect from Brettanomyces. Light leather, dirt, and earth. Slight banana peel, and very faint butterscotch. Hmm. I wasn't sure if a stout would highlight all of the normal characteristics of Brett, but they all seem to be there. A generic roastiness in the back. It's not yet coming clear as chocolate or coffee or whatever.

T/MF: The first thing to hit is an interesting melding of chocolate and sourness. That ends with a bit of bitterness, between char and licorice. More of that milky sourness on the finish. Fairly long, too. Leather, banana peel, and butterscotch all come out just after the sour chocolate. Slight raisin and raisin stem. Very nice. Not a replacement for a good solid stout, but a nice treat from time to time.

Poured from a 16.9 oz. bottle, into a Belgian tulip glass.

BA imperial stout - on tap at the Hermosillo in LA. Nice Barrel nose, overall great but a little thin in the mouth feel.
