First review of this beer on BA. I believe the ABV is incorrect here. OG Midnight in Reno was 8%. Midnight in Reno "2" (this time, it's personal) is the 6.7% version. Anyhoo, thanks to leftpaw for bringing it to Thanksgiving 2019.
Anyways, I go into this review with like 2 cases of Tart of Darkness in my cellar. I like my sour stouts. Well, I basically like that sour stout, magdura is good, but tier 2 stuff, still looking for someone else to join ToD in the top tier hoard the beer kind of way.
Pours black. 1/2" brown head . She's a looker. Aroma was heavily roasted malt primarily, didn't really get those sour, cherry, woody, cola like notes you get from a superior sour stout.
Taste repeats much of the nose, its strong, heavy, heavy roast, the sour power is mild in comparison. Still lacks some of those residual notes you look for and enjoy in a sour stout (well I do). The mouth feel is consistently a three strike combo of a left hand heavy roasted (burnt) grain, right hand of bitterness followed by a head kick from the significant alcohol throughout.
So basically nowhere near as good as ToD, still not as good as Magdura, but also still a decent beer, but given the price point, I don't see me coming back to this one.
