A perfectly balanced and smooth IPA. Brewed with a healthy dose of Chinook, Willamette, and Cascade hops.

Reviewed May 2014.

Had on tap at the brewery. Seems like an experimental brew gone wrong. Unbalanced and harsh with some really unpleasant taste sensations. I did not finish it.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium to dark coppery amber with a nice one finger khaki head with great retention and thick lacing, looks good. Aroma dominated by grassy and dank hops with a background of lightly caramel malt, light citrus; spicy. Flavor is mellow bready and caramel malt, moderate grass, hay and slightly dank hops. Finishes moderately bitter with residual caramel and biscuit malt. Medium bodied. A laid back IPA by West Coast standards. Lots of hops flavors, but they are somewhat subdued. Quite malty, almost like a more intense English IPA. I'm a big malt fan and found this to be a pleasant IPA although not quite to style. Although mostly an IPA style malt base, there is a pleasant almost porter-like quality to the finish. Wouldn't pass it up, but probably wouldn't seek it out either.

Poured from 16oz tall can into a pint glass.

Appearance: dark brown-orange hue with a very light haze and a moderate effervescence. Head is a finger of frothy tan foam. Pretty attractive!

Smell: a little bit musty with a citrusy and dank hop character. Not bad, but unsophisticated.

Taste: much like the aroma, there's a dank and citrusy wet-hop character here that reminds me a little bit of homebrew. It's hard for me to describe this another way; it's not necessarily a bad thing, but the overall impression is that it's kind of an early attempt.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess for the style. I like it.

Overall: as I said, decent but unsophisticated. Pretty drinkable for all that, though.

A: Poured an orangish copper color with a moderate white cap which resedes within moments leaving some small white bubbles and spotty lacing

S: A big Earthy note with flowers and whiffs of citrus.

T: Immediately I notice this IPA is different. A fuller beer with some immediate caramel, hop bittering-like lingering bitterness that just hangs out in a bad way. There is a Earthy, wood and ligh smoke undertone to this beer which overrides the faint citrus and floral notes. The finish is dry, pungent bitter that reminds me of metallic but I know its not but it provides the sensation of what I think of putting a penny in my mouth like feel and bitterness, clingy and almost unpleasant

M: Medium bodied but this beer feels like it just has lots its carbonation, it feels flat and heavy. The bittering and Earthy, caramel blend on this beer just hangs out.

O: The choice of hops in this beer may be its biggest downfall. It also felt poorly attentuated. Just to clinging, full and lack of feel or pop on the mouth. I really struggled on this one but half way through I surrendered and left. I did not finish the pint, could not.
