the latest in their wooden soul series, which has me excited every time i get to drink a new beer from it. this one a collaboration with a local winery, a flanders red type with cab franc grapes and aged in cab franc barrels. the wine aspect to this is huge, and rightfully should get all the headlines, but lets not overlook how unique and funky the yeast complexion is here too, easily the most mature and evolved beer in this series from a fermentation standpoint. i love how woody it is too, tons of oak on this, vanilla and tannins, just very mature, its a great layer in both nose and taste. the grapes are cool, fruity beyond wine, with blackberry and sour cherry notes to them, there all the way through too not just at the end, jammy at times and tart at others, beautiful use of this fruit. its cool to age it in the same barrel, i think that adds some cool continuity, and really brings out that aspect in the flavor. quite acidic at the end, but also really dry and rustic at the same time, not as much vinegar type sourness as it smells like it ought to have. overall an awesome beer with a lot of promise for future beers of the same vein, some white grape editions would be rad!
