Complex notes of toffee and vanilla lure you in, with a roasty-toasty, malt-forward body burly enough to un-shiver those timbers. Make way for Rum King, a pitch black Imperial Stout aged in freshly emptied rum barrels. Smooth, assertive, and nearly ‘Navy strength,’ this seaworthy and spirited brew is a bold

Pours a deep dark (near black) brown with an abundant mocha head with decent retention. Good lacing. Aroma is dark espresso, vanilla and rum. Flavor is very coffee/espresso forward. Only slight rum barrel in the flavor, vanilla comes through as well. Feel is thick and creamy. Overall a fabulous beer. Sorry I only was able to get my hands on one can. Definitely would pick up more if I saw it.

Just an amazing beer. Rum, coffee, vanilla and toffee notes combine to make a variant better than the original. And I am a fan of Rum King.
Outstanding.

Nice marketing job Indeed! Super limited release, with max limits of two at most places I saw. Grabbed two at one. 12 ounces of beer canned 12-18-18. Last year already.
Black, & livelier than your usual big stout or Excel spreadsheet. The nose bring lots of roasted coffee with a generous riptide of rum. Not bad.
Rum King – Dogwood Neon is a kicky little number. My first impression is the beer should have Mr. Yuk on the label, because at 10.5%, it tastes like a shot of cold espresso, sans alcohol. Strong espresso & roast up front, & like the nose, a wicked undercurrent of rum. Mid-palate brings plenty of promised vanilla along with flecks of chocolate, half-and-half, finishing with a deep malt sweetness. Creamy & smooth. Supremely sippable.
After someone dropped several tons of rusting pennies into the last few years of Rum King, my hopes for this were restrained. They’ve been exceeded by several Christie Brinkleys. Excellent beer that is the equal of the fine early Rum Kings (before the line was watered down by heathens).

Trying to find a flaw with this and I cannot. Poured into a 10-oz tulip, viscous, oily black, with a dark brown head that seems to fade into the body. It retreats leaving impressive lacing. The aroma is OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD, I'd give it a 6 if I could. Rich, heavy, earthy espresso with cream and the faintest hint of dark fruit as well. Flavor profile is enormous, with coffee and rum in equal balance (though not too boozy considering), along with toffee, vanilla, a little bit of caramel perhaps, and baker's chocolate. Full-bodied with medium carbonation, not sticky or cloying. Ridiculous.

Pours thick black with some crimson highlights and a fresh tan head. Smell has fresh roast coffee/espresso with vanilla and toffee. Taste is superb with fresh mellow roasted coffee/espresso very present, it's followed/complemented by hints of vanilla and toffee, rum is present but plays a nicely integrated part in the finish. Mouth feel is smooth and creamy/velvet with medium carbonation with the barrel well balanced. If you like fresh coffee in your stout and a shot of rum you will love this, I was very impressed as i have all but given up on Rum King, This variant is great.
