Loretta’s Dark Lager fills the need for a malty beer in our core lineup. We love this one because it drinks like a crisp lager that you want to drink a bunch of; it’s the best of both worlds.

Pours out of the can a deep amber-brown with about 2 fingers of head. Smells like cocoa, carmel and roasty malts. Tastes initially dry and the roasted malts are prominent, but within a few seconds the other sweeter flavors come to the foreground. Great carbonation and mouthfeel.

Appearance: Pours a clear, deep amber to brown color with a strong light tan head. SRM of 18. (4.00)
Aroma: Strong aromas of chocolate, cocoa, tobacco, dark grains, with some caramel notes.
Flavor: Strong flavors of chocolate, tobacco, some caramel syrup and scotch notes on the finish.
Feel: Medium-bodied, average carbonation and finishes sweet.
Compared to New Belgium 1554 1/2023: Pours lighter, milder aromas. More caramel, syrup, scotch. Less chocolate, cocoa, roast, tobacco. Sweeter and more syrupy smooth.
Compared to Sprecher Black Bavarian 1/2023: Pours lighter, milder aromas. More caramel, syrup, scotch. Less chocolate, cocoa, roast, tobacco. Sweeter and more syrupy smooth.
Overall: A darker and sweeter lager here. Not so sure about a Euro Dark lager. Drinks a little more like a Scotch or Wee-Heavy. Dark brown, caramel, syrupy and sweet with a bit of scotch flavor.

10 oz pour at the Milwaukee taproom. Pours a medium brown (not as dark as expected) with a creamy light tan head. Aroma and flavor feature caramel, coffee, milk chocolate, and light earthy/spicy hops. Solid and easy to drink but not the best dark lager I've had by quite a bit.

Clear dark amber body, well carbonated. Thick 1½ inch head that sticks around for a long time, receding slowly with an uneven, pitted surface and thick lacing.
The aroma is weak, but good. Baked bread, chocolate, vague fruit.
The flavor is toasty melanoidins, nutty, chocolate, and caramel initially all of which carry through into the finish. The beginning taste starts slightly sweet, but this dries out substantially by the end, resulting in a relatively dry finish with slight hints of bitterness adding to the aftertaste. The aftertaste is pleasant with the aforementioned flavors lingering and a creamy chocolaty smoothness in my mouth.
Medium body with a smooth to slightly drying and yet creamy mouth feel.
Overall, a nicely put together dark lager. Plenty of malty flavor to keep me interested and the dry-ish finish wants another.
The can labels this as simply a dark lager (however, the brewer's "Release Schedule" chart calls it a dunkel.) Whatever, I enjoyed it.

From a 12 oz can:
Appearance: Clear amber, ok head.
Smell: Mild fruitiness, raisin or grape.
Taste: Mild dark fruit, toffee, medium body.
Overall: I've been on a dark lager kick lately so picked up a 6 pack of this one from Indeed. It didn't quite hit the mark for me, a little too much on the fruity side instead of the roasted side. Maybe more Vienna lager than dark lager.

Thanks to my #3 son for this tasty little number.
Really nice looking. Nice dense almost tan head. Very clear brown with some darker red/yellow highlights.
Classic lager aroma with hints of malt and an aqueous quality.
This is pretty complex taste. Malty dryness on the finish lingers a good long time. Slightly toasty malt flavor. Hints of sweetness. Tasty herbal hop flavors round off the malts really nicely.
Nice fullness for a small lager, giving it a nice feel.
This is good. I like it from the can, but really liking it in the glass too.
Brewery lists it as a dunkel.

12oz can dated 9/10/2021 into a tall lager glass.
L: Pours dark copper amber with a 1/2" fizzy off-white head that goes thin & creamy fairly fast. Good fast carbonation throughout until end. Almost no lacing at all.
S: Caramel, nuttiness, toasted malts, grains and a suggestion of light coffee.
T: Cocoa, toasted malts, semi-dark bread, caramel. It is gently sweet with subtle bitterness and is slightly thin.
F: Crisp, fairly smooth semi-creamy light-bodied mouthfeel with a lightly dry finish. Mildly thin w/out a lot of depth.
O: A lighter bodied malt frwd and refreshing dark lager that is redolent of a Leinenkugel beer. It is very easy drinking and could be a session beer for sure. It is very good in it's style and I'd like to try it on tap.

12oz can. Poured out a dark, dark brown color with a small, off-white head of foam. It left some thin lacing on the glass. It smelled of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and some toffee. Nice roasty taste with caramel, chocolate and toffee. Mild bitterness.

12oz can, dated
Chocolate and nuttiness and corn syrup and roast. Simply exists as a dark lager to barely fill the categorization on the packaging to be a product on the shelves... and did I mention it has a chocolate nuttiness?!?!
I actually like it, I'm being too harsh. Easy drinking stuff. But I'd still rather buy Modelo Negra or Dos Equis Dark, and this is more of a dunkel than a dark lager

Slightly disappointed in this one...lacking melanoidins and malt depth and complexity...
I don't want to paint this as a bad beer as there is a touch of chocolate as well as a bit of nuttiness but it just falls short of what I was expecting based on their description and based on my high view of this brewery in general.
It's OK...I wanted it to be great..

Dark copper color. Malty and relatively dry. Notes of dark bread with marmalade. A bit of Noble hops that give a bit of herbal touch in the finish. A nice drinking, relatively low ABV beer. Enough there where I won't get bored after one.

12oz can. Can bottom is stamped for canning date as '09/10/21' and best by date as '01/08/22'.
Clear, deep amber colored boy. Not much of a head, but it sticks around as an off white cap. Leaves a few interrupted strings of lacing.
Aroma has lots of toasted malts.
Taste is dark toasted malts, with some floral and herbal hops. The blend continues in the aftertaste.
Thinner mouth feel. Good carbonation.
Presents as a good dark lager, with rich malts and a slight hop bite. Session fare.
