Like most beer lovers have experience, until we were first introduced to Belgian-style beers we had no idea that beer could have so many big, bodacious flavours and aromas. When designing this Belgian-inspired ale we blended a mixture of Brown and Crystal malts with a touch of Roasted Barley to bring some depth. Juicy and fragrant Tradition and Chinook hops were added with a deft touch to bring a balancing bitterness to all this malty sweetness. Fermentation was made possible with a true Trappist Ale yeast strain creating classically spicy and fruity characters.

625ml bottle poured into tulip 13/9/12 tanks liamt07 for the bottle
A hazed brownish amber with enough clarity too see a few bubbles, beige thumbs width of foam looks quite dense but I turn to type a few words and look back and its gone, no lace
S chocolate with faint licorice with lots of bruised banana and plums with a whiff of bubblegum here and there, smells pretty nice
T a little yeast, root beer and cola with most of what I smell, the taste is a little toned down compare to the nose
M medium bodied but just a little dead in the mouth, not flat but need a little life, sticky on the lips with a mellow banana coco aftertaste
O simple but decent, smells pretty solid but missing just a little something in other areas. The academy's off to a good start but there's room for improvement
I'd try this one again down the road and see if they tweak it at all, thanks again Liam

On tap at the Beer Academy.
Dark red, with some deep orange hues. Cream head, light retention that only leaves behind a thick collar. Nose has cocoa powder, banana notes, quite a bit of spice/clove. Chocolatey, with a fairly big wheat character (so it seemed). Taste has banana, chocolate, some spicing and yeast character. Perhaps even a hint of alcohol (odd). A suggestion of roast in the finish. Medium body, light bitterness, but mostly sweet and spicey. An interesting dubbel/belgian dark ale, but not something I was too intrigued by.

Sessionable Belgian. More or less hits the style for a Belgian Brune though not complex. Sweet side, with a tad of astringency. A good retained head, unknown IBU probably not high but not posted here. Average mouthfeel, and above average carbonation. Worth a try.
