My first offering from this brewery as it made its way to YYC.
Appearance - Pours a slightly hazy golden yellow with two fingers of bubbly white head.
Smell - earthy, floral, saaz, leafy, and floral hops, lemon peel, biscuity malts, grassy notes, and earthy yeast.
Taste - earthy, floral, saaz, leafy, and floral hops upfront. The lemon peel, grassy notes, and biscuity malts come through next. The earthy yeast rounds out the brew.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes crisp with the hops lingering.
Overall - An easy drinking brew that I could easily see as a summer crushable beer. A pleasant brew that will appeal to those wanting to move into the craft beer world.

Look: Pours medium yellow with a one finger white head. Head disappears within 2 minutes. Leaving slight lacing.
Smell: Crackers and white bread. Slight floral notes.
Taste: Sweet lightly malted front end. Opens slightly in the middle with a bit of malt coming in, semi crisp dry finish.
Feel: Light bodied, crisp clean and dry.
A sweet, run of the mill Kolsch type beer. It earns a B.

I got a can of this beer from a beer store in Sault Ste Marie whilst there for my son's hockey tournament. It poured a clear golden with thin white head that is not leaving much lace. The scent had biscuit and grain notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with bread base with clean subtle bitter finish. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a good beer.

Looks okay, but fairly unpleasant after that. Sweet without being properly malty. Tastes macro-ish. Some hop bitterness, but mostly a puffy, sweet mouthful without any redeeming characteristics. Give it a pass unless you're just looking for a notch for your beer belt.

Pours with a lovely creamy off white head with moderate lacing. The body is gold but oddly cloudy. The aroma caramel, slight sulpher when opened but quickly dissipated. Flavour is dominated by the malts with balencing noble hops.

473 ml can served cold into a pint glass. Purchased from Fortinos for $3 CDN.
Appearance - Clear rich golden color with a finger and change of fluffy white head. Good retention and plenty of sparkling lacing.
Smell - Clean and fairly grainy with hints of vinous aromas. Grape and raisin with the grass and some minor malt aromas.
Taste - Fairly tasty with grain and bitterness shining through. Grape and raisin again are solid backing flavors.
Mouthfeel - Drying finish, medium body, pretty good.
Overall - A solid not so local kolsch. Worth a try and stacks up well with most other Ontario breweries.

Drain pour. This is everything bad about the expansion of craft beer. Just awful.

Pours a nice gold colour with a thin loose head. The smell is grainy. The taste is grainy as well, but with a bit of sweetness, not kolsch-like in my opinion, but a bit on the sweet side. A light amount of hops is detectable overcoming the sweetness. Mouthfeel is tickly on the tongue

473 mL can from the LCBO; packaged Feb 24 2017 and served well chilled.
Pours a lightly hazed, medium golden color, with one finger of foamy white froth soon settling upon the surface. Average retention; it recedes steadily over the next four minutes or so, with a creamy-looking collar being the primary remnant. Scant lacing, but looks fine otherwise. Doughy, grainy malts are apparent on the nose, with hints of shortbread sweetness and grassy hay.
The flavours are much the same; this one plays it very simple and safe. Pale malts comprise most of the flavour -
quite grainy and bready, with a slight biscuit-sweet note. I don't think they used corn in this one, but it does have a slight vegetal sweetness to it, as well as mild hints of grassy hay and herbal hops at the finish that balance the profile out. Nothing to write home about, and also not the best representation of this style that I've had lately, but fairly unobjectionable. Light-bodied, with appropriate carbonation levels of moderate intensity - light crispness, but smooth and nigh-on effortless to drink.
Final Grade: 3.5, a B grade. I'll call Northern Logger a gateway craft beer - because the people who are most likely to appreciate it are the folks who aren't too far removed from drinking solely macro brands. Its basic, grainy pale malt-based flavour profile and bare bones hopping are unlikely to endear themselves to a plurality of beer geeks, but to be fair I don't get the impression that they're marketing it towards those types to begin with. In the end, it's a serviceable lunch pail ale that I don't regret trying, but am unlikely to return to in the near future.
