This is a beer designed to be an homage to The Sweet North’s Port Arthur Fog tea latte. It has an English base with the malts and hops while milk sugar is added to mimic the latte. Earl Grey tea is of course the focus of the flavour and aroma with the yeast making sure that fog rolls down the hills of Port Arthur.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From the Huron Church Rd. LCBO in nearby Windsor. Canned September 17/25. My 4th beer from the Thunder Bay, Ontario brewery, and 1st for 2026. Astutely beloved to Gracie the cat...

473 mL can from the LCBO, included in Sleeping Giant's Northern Party Pack. Dated Sep 12 2022 and served barely chilled. Happy New Years BA!

Pours a clear orange amber colour, generating roughly an inch of loose, frothy off white-tinged head that melts away within three minutes or so. A modest smattering of lace is tossed about behind it, with a tight collar and filmy cap gracing the surface afterwards. Subtle earl grey qualities on the nose - that is to say, black tea and bergamot citrus. The vanilla is discernible yet subdued, with creamy sweetness and bready malts rounding out the bouquet.

The flavours you'd expect are there: understated bergamot citrus oiliness underneath black tea, bready malts and a mild honeyed dough sweetness. Orange peel, sweet cream and tea leafiness carry on through the finish and beyond, into an aftertaste with shades of bitter orange and spiciness. Medium in body, with low carbonation that weakly brushes against the palate; feels silky-smooth, almost nitro-esque on the tongue. Unbelievably quaffable.

Final Grade: 3.83, a B+. As much as I love earl grey tea, I've found earl grey-flavoured beers to be a hit or miss affair. It seems all too easy (or at least tempting) to overuse one of the side ingredients, e.g. vanilla or lactose, resulting in a poorly balanced, saccharine beer of the sort that I don't generally care for. Port Arthur's Fog avoids that trap, allowing the tea flavours to shine through and leaving this earl grey fan largely satisfied - I mean, I can always do without vanilla, but that's just me. An above average effort from this Northern Ontario brewery - I'd buy it again.
