Drank from 16oz tulip glass. Bottling date is not observable.
Look: From vigorous pour, tan frothy head formed to full stature of about 1". Small head remained retained on the beer, with heaps of lacing on the glass. Poured near black.
Smell: Goes in this order- Roasted malts, grape aromas, dark fruits such as prunes, figs and dates, and some chocolate undertones. Malts and grape really prominent.
Taste: Great stout character, but the grape flavoring doesn't seem to be integrated that well. Roasted malts and dark fruits upfront, but the cabernet grape flavor makes flavor almost too acidic. As the stout warms, the grape flavors is even more pronounced. It isn't bad by any means, but it isn't something that is to my choice of beverage.
Feel: medium in body, but light in weight. The weight adds to feel, but I wish it was thicker. Carbonation seems somewhat high as well.
Overall: I am glad I tried this, but it isn't something that I would actively seek out again. Cheers!

Bottle from Tavour
Dark brown with garnet at the edges and a good sized tan head that persists. Chocolate caramel and earth mixed with grape jam and vinous notes. The earthy pine bitterness lingers in the finish and clashes a bit with the other stuff going on here. Tasty in small quantities.

Just had the 2015 and 2016 at the same time. The 2015 has a slight vinegar note but is aging well. The 2016 is fruity and the must is perfect. I am hopeful that the 2016 will be aged better. I generally love this brewery.

Really trying hard to like these guys, as they seem to be trying to make some interesting stuff. This beer, which the Bier Stein indicates is an IRS aged in barrels with considerable cabernet grape must, is another near miss for these guys. Yes, there's plenty of dark chocolate, licorice and vanilla, along with a lot of grape cabernet flavor. That doesn't sound half bad, but in this case the individual components were greater/beter than the sum of those parts. I just didn't feel like the grape must went all that well with the stout characteristics.
Shrug. Maybe others will like this better, but it's just not my cup of tea.
