Look: Mahogany colored on the pour and dark ruby-red when held to light with an off-white head that quickly settles to a film, leaving webs of lacing clung to the glass
Aroma: Wood smoke, smoked barley, barbeque umami, warm brown bread, and wafts of earthiness
Taste: Starts out with a rush of savory notes reminiscent of freshly smoked meat and that note holds until it’s joined by wood smoke and bready malt. The smoke and malt go back and forth as earthy notes weave in and out until umami and smoke close it out
Mouthfeel: Full but light feeling, clean, medium to medium-high carbonation, and a clean and dare I say crisp finish
Overall: This is delicious. I had this beer at these folks’ pub a few years back and liked it a lot so was pumped to see they had made it again and canned it too! A tasty Rauchbier that isn’t such a smoke bomb that it would push away all but the hardcore Rauch fans but still leaves no doubt it is one and a damn tasty one at that. Recommended
