On-draught @ the brewpub. Brief notes taken live on a phone:
HEAD: About 2cm wide. White colour. Average characteristics. Leaves light lacing as it recedes. Retention is bad - about 1 minute.
BODY: Clean vibrant copper. Yeast-free. Clean.
Appears aptly carbonated. It's a nice looking pale, but has no stand-out characteristics.
AROMA: Fresh orange peel, clean pale malts, citrusy zest. Showcases its eponymous hop nicely.
Aromatic intensity is average.
TASTE: Follows the aroma. Hop bitterness is neatly balanced by the clean pale malt backbone. It's simple and a bit plain, sure, but the hop profile is nice, featuring floral, citrusy, and hints of tropical fruit character. Orange and tangerine come to mind. Average depth of flavour.
TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, clean, crisp, well carbonated, medium-bodied. Complements the flavour profile nicely. Refreshing to boot.
OVERALL: Highly drinkable, and a worthwhile pale that succeeds in its modest aim to showcase Mandarina Bavaria. Enjoyable and approachable, but not aa paragon of its style. I'd nab it again at its $4/pint price point, but it won't dazzle the discerning drinker. Definitely above average.
