On-draught @ the brewpub. Brief impressions below:
HEAD: None. No lacing.
BODY: Clear clean Amber of average vibrance. To-style. I see no yeast or sediment within.
Appears potentially undercarbonated.
AROMA: Amber malts, toasty bread crust, Caramalt, mild Noble hop presence. Suggests a balanced lager well within style conventions.
TASTE: Almost nails the style. Amber malts are at its core, with subsidiary hints of Caramel, toasted malts, and bread crust. Sweetness is near perfect, but it tugs towards too sweet in the second act; I wouldn't be terribly surprised if there was some specialty honey malt in the grain bill. Decent balance. Nice build. I like it, but depth of flavour is below average, and it doesn't have the subtlety even of a beer like Sam Adams Boston Lager.
TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, medium-bodied, a biteen overcarbonated, Unrefreshing, and of apt thickness and heft on the palate for the style.
OVERALL: Highly drinkable, and an enjoyable Vienna lager - a style I love to see breweries doing. Well priced at $4 a pint, and a beer I'd happily return to with food. No, it can't compete with the best in the style, and it could use improvements in terms of depth of flavour, balance, and complexity, but it's competently brewed.
