Draft at the brewery
Fair foamy head with moderate retention, messy lacing, clear bright amber color

Nose semi sweet malts, a little toasty, sweet biscuity notes with fair fruity, generic berry fruit punch

Taste brings more mild sweet malt, hint of caramel and toasted biscuity notes, grain, light herbal earthy hop with med light bitterness, a bit of fruit notes, drier mild sticky finish

Mouth is med bod, med carb

Overall OK

Look: Pours a clear coppery polish amber colour, with a solid 1 1/2 finger head on an aggressive pour. After 5 minutes the off white head is still a 1/4 finger across the entire top of the glass. A nice sticky lacing where the head has pulled back from on the sides of the glass.

Smell: On point for the style. Candied sugar and malt. Another reviewer described red licorice notes. I would not have picked that up, but yes...its unmistakable now that it has been pointed out to me.

Taste: Cracked wheat bread, saltine crackers, orange pekoe tea and caramel. The beer starts out very sweet but finishes with a bittersweet end, like a high school romance.

Feel: Light to medium bodied. Sensations for most of the tongue and sides of your mouth. Left me tongue feeling a little sugary sticky at the end, which was a little unpleasant.

Overall, a really nice Amber Ale, for those who are into that style. It's a style I can usually live without though, so will I go looking for this again....no, but if this is in your wheelhouse, I'd give it a solid B to B+ as it delivers the goods.

Amber copper with no carbonation, a light haze and 4 fingers of light beige head.

Smells of toasted notes, red liquorice, and cherries and black tea.

Tastes of toasted notes, with a light fruitiness. Hints of biscuit, and a touch of metallic iron.

Medium body, and moderate carbonation.

Got this at the Beer Store in Bracebridge, drinking it on the Lake in Muskoka, Nov 26th, 2017. Very solid amber ale.

Big Rig Brewery Canadian Amber.
5.2 alc.

The beer has a beige creamy head that is quite hearty but soon disappears.

The colour of the beer is copper and there is a haziness at play.

The aroma is bready, malty, and a bit of hops. The taste is the same. Everything is quite nicely balanced in this beer.

The body is medium. The finish dry and crisp with some slight bitterness that is pleasant.

A fine beverage, in my opinion.

Can - pours a red-copper hazed ale with a with a decent 2 finger lasting cap - Aroma is toasty cereal and mustiness with a light sweetness. Flavor is toasty malty with incredible dryness - has Big Rig replicated a Vienna with ale yeast??? Big Rig never disappoints and this is a sleeper brew which validates this.

Tallboy can from TBS; dated Dec 8 2016 and served well chilled.

Pours a clear amber-copper colour, supporting an inch of puffy, off white-tinged head that steadily recedes over the next 2-3 minutes or so. A thin collar of creamy-looking foam survives, in addition to a patchy film upon the surface; not much in the way of lace, unfortunately. The aroma is slightly sweet and decidedly malt-forward, featuring notes of toasted bread, grains and nuts, alongside some toffee and just a slight hint of cocoa. Slightly earthy, with a touch of dark fruits.

Delivers as expected - behold the Canadian Amber Ale, in all its malt-forward, one-dimensional glory. The flavour profile includes toasted grains and bready malts, as well as subtle hints of nuts and milk chocolate. Toffee sweetness is also prominent as the malt flavours press on towards the finish, where they are joined by weak hints of earthy, leafy hops. Bittersweet aftertaste, though I'll put extra emphasis on 'sweet' for clarity's sake. Light-medium body, with subtle carbonation that gently nudges the surface of the palate, resulting in a smooth, somewhat soft texture. Simple and unexciting, but a decent quaffer nonetheless.

Final Grade: 3.69, a B grade. Big Rig's Canadian Amber is a true Canadian amber ale - in the sense that the malt bill carries the day, with the hops coming off as more of an afterthought. Does that make this a bad beer? Not really - although it does mean that it's not my kind of amber, given that I'd prefer at least some semblance of a hop kick to be present. This can is admittedly a little on the old side, so I imagine that at some point I'll be returning to this one... that is, assuming I'm able to find fresh stock somewhere. If you've enjoyed beers like Flying Monkey's Amber or Broadhead's Grindstone Amber in the past, this one might be up your alley.

Clear copper colour which is handsome enough, but devoid of any real head or lace. Nose is malty and grainy, rather ordinary. Thin bodied, malt up front, some anonymous hop bitterness. Pretty dull as these things go. Drinkable, but unmemorable.

Pours a dark caramel colour with a large fluffy head on top. Corny and grainy and faint smell. A bit sweet on the flavour with hops and malts in equal portions. Smooth mouthfeel
