May 21st, 2015 - I've had a few beers that I describe as Frankensteinian, but White Labs' Frankenstout takes the phenomenon to its intentional and logical end. With a milky, frothy head and a deep, dark body, it looks like an innocuous stout. But the nose comes out with fresh raspberries on the nose and strawberry milk. It is *intensely* strange, and finishes with some sweet strawberry starburst. The flavor is dry and weird and gets a little funky near the end. It turns into a varnish or shoe polish style flavor and a chemical twang. at the same time it is quite bitter. but not with hops. Rather, it's like overroasted coffee or mizuna, or even a blend of the two. Every moment is a spastic twitch of different tastes, as if gripping onto a rollercoaster seat that is uncomfortably loose.

Definitely a garnet that gives away some haze. The head is appropriately a darker shade of tan, less long lasting and creamy than some of their pale ales.
Chocolate malt, almond, banana, there is definitely something funky Brett going on here too. It is all at once dry stout, Belgian pale, weizen.
Bubblegum and bananas greet me, though it’s all got Hershey’s sloshing around somewhere. Medium-high bitterness leads to a drying wine-like finish.
Medium-light body, active carbonation.
This is an amorphous brew. It flexes and changes within a chocolate frame. It’s a light stout, if you can call it that.

On tap at Whitle Labs. This is made with 96 yeast strains!!!
Appearance: Near black with a semi-durable head.
Aroma: Very complex and quite spicy for style.
Flavor: A bit boozy too, but this blends with the other characteristics. Frankenstout character comes out in the strange, complex, spicy aftertaste.
O: distinct, complex and worth trying.
