It's only the first week of August and I'd thought I'd Had enough Berliner Weiss until June. But I saw a local rendition. And I am glad to report that I exercised good judgment to have one more.

First, the can's copy encourages drinkers to squirt syrup in... much like the Berlin tradition. (This is a good idea for expanding the market because the style naked is too sour for me and, I'm sure, a lot more folks.) Without traditional syrups, I tried peach concentrate. While not the same as I'd Had in Berlin, but it produced less pucker... proving my point.

Second, Baderbrau's rendition is not unusual. This is good in the sense that they know what they are doing. It is less good in that they probably will not be able to make much money off of this obscure taste.

Good to see Baderbrau sticking to their knitting in the German tradition. Next year, I hope they try packaging this Weiss with some woodruff or raspberry. And if they do a Gose, please be gentle about it: maximum pucker does not sell beer.
