The key to hazelnut flavoring is to not let it start as artificial. Hazelnut Harvest smacks me in the nose as artificial and that only gets half-moderated in the mouth... so much so that it is hard to appreciate the craft that went into blending the malts.
I also think it is best to call this an American Brown. Amber-reds are often pretty. Browns are not particularly pretty (and this is not.) American reds are usually hoppy and Browns focus on the malt.
Rogue's hazelnut rendition would be a good model to adjust Rustic Road's recipe.
I like what Rustic Road is doing, helping give a new life to a reduced downtown. They are a young brewer (a 4th anniversary brew is on the menu) and have a limited kitchen. They are making a go of it and I hope to try some more of their offerings, but not Hazelnut Harvest again... until they work on making the flavoring less artificial.

Taste: crisp, sweet, hazelnut, smooth, creamy mouth-feel. Caramel and Hazelnut nose.
Dark amber, clear with a big foamy head and sticky refined lace. Medium body. Kind of a dessert ale after a meal.
