a simple and clean saison, not as interesting as some other beers they have done in this style, but well enough executed as this type of saison goes, and an easy drinker with some spicy sausage pizza in here, i really like the food they make! its more or less clear in the dim light of their taproom, holds an inch of high airy white head that looks classically belgian, and smells like familiar fruity esters of pear, white wine, and apple, along with a little earthy peppery spice and some clean wheat malt, simple and often repeated, but agreeable and good. a little orange essence to my tastes, a lemongrass sort of floral herbal thing too, seemingly all from the yeast. a little pils malt in here too i reckon adding a light crackery layer to the foundation and keeping this on the light side. some minerals keep it grounded, the yeast esters arent over the top, and overall this is a well executed example of this type of saison. i always want more from clean beer in this style though, like bretty funk or oak or something, always seems incomplete, but this is closer than many, and its bright and lively in the mouthfeel too. fresh tasting beer overall, floral and well refined, as much a belgian blonde as anything else though. i think it was listed at 6.4% abv too when i was in, so maybe thats come down over time from batch to batch. drinkable at this strength.
