500 ML bottle
Served in a snifter
2017
This beer pours black and is topped with a couple inches of mocha head that leaves spotty lacing.
As soon as I opened the bottle I could smell caramel and vanilla. As it warms a bit alcohol, oak and chocolate come out.
The taste has caramel, vanilla, chocolate, and coffee.
Full bodied with slick mouthfeel
The smell was great. The taste was very good. I found this beer quite enjoyable overall.

From notes. 22oz into a tulip. Pours a deep opaque black w/ a thick sudsy head that lingers.
Aroma is toasted coconut, vanilla, sweet roasty malt and booze. Notes of chocolate, but mostly a strong bourbon presence.
Taste follows nose, leading off with bourbon and followed by a layer of dark roasty malt and chocolate. Vanilla and toasted coconut. Warming boozy heat on the finish.
Mouthfeel is smooth and slick, medium body.
Overall a pretty good bourbon stout, maybe a little unrefined, hot.

2014 Vintage, poured into a tulip.
Looks great ... dark brown, good head, some lacing.
Aroma is predominantly bourbon.
Taste is mostly bourbon. The expected dark roasty character of an imperial stout just isn't there. The underlying beer is a pretty mild and light bodied ale. It's good, to be sure, but it isn't what I think of when I see the label "imperial stout". But the beer as a whole is quite well balanced, quite smooth, and a good vehicle for that bourbon aroma and flavor. The body/mouthfeel is on the light side, sort of thin, but still quite OK.
Overall, this is a perfectly decent bourbon barreled ale, and a fun beer to drink. I'd be happy to buy another bottle if I see one (and if I remember right, it was a better price point than a lot of BBAs), but it's not competing in quite the same league as Fremont's BBA Dark Star and variants, or BCBS, or others.

L - Pours a dark brown body with a one finger dark tan head. Great retention and lacing.
S - Bourbon barrel on the front that develops into sweet roasted malts and has a coffee & vanilla finish. Seems balanced to me, with no one character dominating.
T - It really follows the nose except there are some char elements all throughout. Balanced, lots of bourbon, vanilla, milk chocolate and light coffee.
F - On the light side of medium bodied with low carbonation. Smooth body and little alcohol heat. Was hoping for a more robust body.
O - It's a solid, well balanced beer. There are better ones in the category, but they might not be as easy to get.

Look: Deep, dark brown body. Dark khaki, dense, and thick head that surreptitiously retreats to a thin patchy cover. Nice curtains. Slick, fast legs. Very attractive.
Smell: Sweetness and bourbon. Boozy aroma on the nose. Deep and rich.
Taste: Similar to a CW 17. A little less robust, but more balanced, and better tasting. Chocolate, caramel, and bourbon are distinct.
Feel: Substantial, with nice carb throughout. Quality feel. However, somewhat thin...
Overall - Try CW17, but imagine what you wanted it to taste like. For some, this will be able to play with the big boys. All-around goodness.

22oz bottle split between a pair of tulips. Barely detectable, but it looks like the bottle code might be suggesting either 310 or 340th day of 2014. Tasting this on the heels of BCBS and KBS side by side, so hopefully that won't impact my judgment.
Pours black with a surprisingly large surprisingly brown head. Fades quickly. Leaves around an eighth to a quarter of an inch of head once it stabilizes. Medium amount of very fine carbonation. Smell is bourbon, booze, roasted coffee. Smells nice.
Taste is a little sweet, somewhat simple. Cherry sweetness, coffee bitterness, not overwhelming. Good, though.
Mouthfeel is medium. Overall, this is a very solid beer.
