Bottle into Captain Lawrence tulip.
Pours a very pale, straw colored yellow... Fizzy white head of two fingers. Very large bubbles comprise the head, and as the head subsides I get the impression that the number of bubbles is not decreasing, but rather the size of the bubbles is diminishing. Some small clumps of lace cling during a sip, but disappear into the legs upon sip-completion.
Smells a bit lemony, with a surprising earthy quality. The beer feels a tad thin, but I suspect that is due to it beig slightly overcarbonated. The flavor also doesn't seem to have a whole lot going on-- some grainy malt up front, a hint of sweetness that reminds me of wheat but that quickly fades, and an odd soapy dry burn towards the finish. It's not exactly an alcohol warmth, but a burning feel like: your raking the infield of a baseball park on a really hot summer day. It is very dry and dusty and you haven't had any water in a while-- for some reason you bum a Marlboro Red from your buddy and proceed to smoke in these conditions.
Overall, this beer seems to be a hybrid of a mediocre pale wheat beer and a strange yeast strain that isn't entirely unlike a Belgian variety. It was a hot day here, and I'm not finding this beer refreshing... or even very enjoyable. Does it offend me? Probably not, but as far as American-made Saisons go, this is a little sub-par.

On tap at Duck Island during their saison festival.
The beer pours a fairly solid gold color with good head retention and lacing. The nose is attractive, if somewhat one dimensional, showing considerable clove and light honey, with a hint of lemon as well. Really don't seem to pick up too much else otherwise. The flavor profile replicates the nose pretty closely, although there's enough hoppy bitterness in the finish to counter and balance the modest sweetness in this beer. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a moderately long, clove filled finish.
The menu description at duck island nailed it pretty well when they described this as a fairly simple, straight forward saison style beer. A subsequent glass of Dupont Avec Les Bons Vouex really put into perspective just how lacking this beer is.

A: Poured a golden yellow hay color with good carbonation leaving a nice white cap
S: Pretty standards but good. Some spice, hay, grass, bit of pepper
T: Starts out with a nice, crisp clean hay and spice combo, has elements of lemon, fresh grass and pepper mid taste.
M: Nice, clean, light body, right amount of booze and a pretty good take on the style
O: Not to shabby and easy drinking
