Imperial Märzen takes our legendary Oktoberfest Lager to the next level using heirloom variety German Malts and mix of old world hops to attain an imperial strength worthy of King Ludwig himself. Some brewers secretly craft more intense, extra-strength versions of their festbiers, coveted greatly by beer drinkers in-the-know.

My first from Silver City who now, amazingly, will complete its third decade soon. Finding this accomplished a brewer for the first time at this later stage of my beer career makes me think I've been living under a rock. But it's not just me, because a brewery this old should have worked on its distribution more. That's not a critique, but rather the limited micro-review Silver City gets until I have a second brew of theirs.
Imperial Marzen may not be the first strong O-Fest I've had. But Silver City's may be the best. There is surprisingly little evidence of 8% ABV which, we should recall, is about one-third higher than the average for Marzens. So how do they do that ? Your guess is better than mine as I'm amazed.
Imperial Marzen Looks like an average marzen, most are a pretty amber; but this one lacks foam (probably killed by the 8% ABV.) Smells improve, though not as rich as I expected for all the malt that was used. Tastes are well-balanced: a rich malt with just enough hops (27 IBU) to counter the sweet malt; and actually, the hops linger quietly until the glass is empty. Medium-mouthed and, actually, full for a marzen.
