Cask. Dark amber. Clear with a creamy looking head. Lacing present.
Chocolate, caramel, and floral hops are present upon smelling.
A nicely balanced flavour profile with some charred bitterness to finish.
Low carbonation and a light to medium body.
Highly quaffable.

I tried this beer off the tapper at the brewery as part of a three sample flight. It poured a clear rich amber with white head that left some lace. The scent had grain and slightly bitter hop notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with bright crystal malt base with grain and floral hop presence and a dry finish. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a great beer.

Named after a carving in the breweries hospitality room (carved in 1932), this is currently their strongest beer.

My review is of two hand pulled pints in one of their pubs: The Royal Oak in Eccleshall on 5th April 2012.

Lovely rich, reddy brown body with an off-white to creamy coloured head which clings to the glass nicely.

The aroma is of a nutty malt loaf with a caramel topping and suggests a full bodied and malty, semi-sweet tasting beer: and that is exactly what you get.

I really liked this: I'm into the sweeter, maltier brews these days and this 'floated my boat'.
