Made in collaboration with Moody Ales as part of the Brews Brothers Collaboration Pack Volume 2 - Pours a rich red colour with a thin pink head that quickly dissipates leaving a thin ring around the top of the liquid and some fine lacing. The nose is kind of funky with berry fruits (black currant, strawberry, raspberry and sour cherry) dominating the finish. Actually hard to get much else. The taste reveals much of the same with cranberry and raspberry tartness coming to the fore front with the funkiness and black currant finishing out the taste. Find the beer more tart than sour as there is some upfront sweetness that balances the whole thing out. The carbonation is active but also adds a nice crispness to the beer. This is actually my second go at this beer. Once when the Brews Brothers Collaboration pack first came out and another about three months later. When I first tried it it wasn't overly impressed with it but just having a couple months in the cellar seems to have mellowed it out quite a bit and thought it was very enjoyable the second go around. If you can find it still give it a try.

341ml bottle poured into tulip 19/5/16

A slow gusher, hazy ruby maroon liquid with a finger of pink foam falls fairly fast bit manages to leave a couple pencil thin rings

S black currant, sweet strawberries, cranberries, juicy and jammy, faint funk, wet wood, more fruit, not sure where the 8% is hiding

T sour fruit, some odd funk I can't place, just a hint of vinegar, still jammy, not as juicy, pretty solid but there's just a little something holding it back

M medium weight, well carbonated, slick, tart but nothing intense, fruity funk lingers

O lots of fruit, mild funk and they 8%alc is pretty much completely concealed, this stuff could hurt ya under a hot sun

I thought this one was pretty good, not up there with world class lambic's by any means but respectable beer that's well worth trying.

A delicious sour. Purple colour and head. Warm smell. A fine flavour delivery system, but not necessarily a beer.

8% abv, N/A ibu, 341ml bottle.
A - clear redish brown purple with 1.5 finger pink head. pretty
S - black currant indeed, cranberry juice, fruity, tart, candy sweet, gummy bear, floral.
T - nicely carbonated. taste like cranberry juice, not overly sour, pleasant. sweet, dry out fast, balance with mild bitterness, black currant lasting.
O - wow, i like it, refreshing summer beer, without too tart. alcohol is well hidden. so far my fav from the pack. well done, moody ales & P49!

Scuse me while I kiss the sky. This is a dandy and very original beer - I've never tasted anything like it. The pinkish color, substantial head, delicious odour make this a very approachable beer. Once you dive into it, well, it's not unlike trying to drink natural juice. This is tart and tasty, where the dark fruit directs the overall experience. I think this is why I started to speak nonsensical sentences to my wife last night.

341ml bottle poured into tulip.

Pours a clear ruby amber with one finger of light pink head that leaves sheets of dripping lace as it recedes.

Smells of sour berries, soft sweet malt and faint green hops.

Tastes of blackcurrant tart, more mildly sweet caramel malt, mild boozy warmth and distant leafy hops.

Feels smooth and frothy. Medium bodied with firm carbonation. Finishes off dry and tart.

Verdict: Recommended. Watch out for that booze.

341ml bottle, part of the Brews Brothers Vol. Two mixed pack, and a collaboration with Moody Ales. The style is a black currant flavoured strong sour, in an ode to Jimi Hendrix' iconic 1960s anthem.

This beer pours a clear, dark magenta brown colour, with three fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat bubbly pink head, which leaves some pitted coral reef lace around the glass as it quickly and evenly subsides.

It smells of musty black currants (a la my Mom's garden a few decades ago), a gently sour milkiness, bready caramel and grainy wheat malt, and a very tame earthy bitterness. The taste is grainy and doughy caramel malt, a stronger, and mildly funky lacto sourness, some muddled dark berry fruitiness (currants, sure, but raspberry and overripe strawberry as well), a free-agent earthy woodsiness, and more understated leafy, weedy, and slightly floral hop bitters.

The carbonation is adequate in its merely supportive and not oft playful frothy measures, the body a decent medium weight, and sort of smooth, as the testy fruit and lazily swirling sour milk notes scrape their fingers across the metaphorical chalkboard. It finishes off-dry, the base wheat malt and inherent fruit sugars parrying the lingering sourness just fine.

Overall, a well-made, if kind of simple sour ale - the guest fruit more or less directs the proceedings, while the lactic sourness hangs around like a little kid brother. And that 16-proof boozy-booze? Not a speck of evidence arose here to prove its existence right now, but I'm sure later I'll be actin' funny and won't know why.
